Something that I read or heard today made me think of my Grandmother who has been gone for a number of years.
She came to the US from Europe through Ellis Island and was always a hard worker who kept her home clean as a whistle.
She was a small woman who spoke in broken English while my Grandfather was a tall man who also spoke in broken English.
My parents bought a house about 4 blocks away from theirs which was good in some ways and not so good in other ways.
My parents always would take us to the Grandparents house if they were going someplace and my Grandparents would babysit my brother and myself.
They always treated us good and we had lots of good Country cooking at my grandparents house.
Did your Grandmother look like this? lol

My Grand Parents on my father's side came over to America and went through Ellis Island too. They were from Greece and learned English but spoke in broken English too. I remember my Grand Mother was a good cook.

My grandfather was her first and worked on a ranch in Pennyslania, my grandmother came here and went to work at the same ranch. They had known each other in the Old country though so it was ironic that they would meet up again at the same place. Your grandmother didn't look like mine , oh dear poor thing.

My dad's dad had a tremor, from parkinsons disease. He struck me as little and wizened. I believe his parents came over from Europe from Germany. It may have been dad's grand parents, though. My dad's mother was the first baby girl born in Bessie, Oklahoma--they named her Bessie. I was not really close to them, cause my mom did not like them and there were some reasons. On my mom's side my grandfather was a stocky man with lots of white hair. It turned white by the time he was thirty. He was over six feet. My mom's mom was orphaned due to illnesses when she was six. She lived to be one hundred. Never went to a doctor until she was in her sixties. She had lots of smile wrinkles and loved all the babies.

How interesting I think Bessie, Ok is near Clinton, Ok where I have been though. Wow she never saw a doctor until she was in her sixities. Back then most women were also midwives and that is one reason they didn't see doctors as they thought they could cure illnesses themselves.

My mother lost her parents when she was little and her brothers took care of her. I do not remember my paternal grandparents although I know I was born when they were around.

My grandparents came from Ireland and also came through Ellis Island. My grandmother loved to cook so her picture would add an apron and she definitely didn't need a walker.

No, my grandparents did look like that but my paternal and maternal grandparents were gems - honest, God-fearing , hardworking folk.
Nana Lucy loved to say, "where there are pains there are gains'.
Miss all four of you.
