What does Mylot mean?

I just realized I don't actually know what mylot was to stand for. I get the my, because is is my area to talk, communicate, discuss, but lot? Is that a lot of people? A lot of blather? Does it have a specific intended meaning? Did it ever have one? If you know, share! If you do not, what do you think it means or should mean?

I've always just imagined it to be rather general. like my lot or the things of mine here here in this space. Could be words, people, whatever, all rolled into one. It's my lot in life.

This is how I have taken it. Or my lot like my parcel. My collection of stuff.

I tend to think Ourlot would be better as it is more communal than personal here

The history of the name is interesting. A 'lot' often means a piece of land - as in a 'parking lot' or 'an empty lot' and it's sometimes used to mean the whole piece of land on which one's house stands and including the lawns and the garden. It's mostly an American usage (and that makes sense, because MyLot is an American company). 'Lot' can also be used to mean 'a collection of things to be offered for sale' or a person's 'given tasks, duties or position in life'. You could think of MyLot as being 'your place where you can be creative' or 'your collection of things you are offering for discussion' or (perhaps, more cynically) 'the things you have to do so that when you've done all you can you say "Well, that's my lot for tonight!"'. Isn't English a peculiar language that three little letters can mean so many different things and be used in so many different ways! I am not sure quite how the name 'MyLot' came to be used for a discussion site but I do know that the first site to be called 'mylot.com' seems to have been a site about gardening and garden maintenance and nothing to do with what it is today. In 2003 the domain name was being offered for sale by a site called 'RusticDecorating.com'. I believe that the current owners bought the domain name sometime in 2005 and opened MyLot (as a discussion site) for business in April 2006. Whatever meaning you find most suitable for the name 'MyLot' is up to you. It is, after all, as much YOUR Lot as it is mine and everyone else's here! Here are all the 'snapshots' of MyLot.com which have been taken by the Wayback Machine. Have fun exploring the history of the site!

Has ownership of the site actually changed again? The last time I checked the whois data, the registration hadn't changed from the California information.

That is interesting. That is something I never gave much thought to. I would like for them to tell us how they came up with the name. Maybe it means My Lot. Like a lot where we keep our content.

I never gave it any thought, but suppose the lot can refer to a place, as in an empty lot. Therefore, My Place or my lot. Ta da!

I'm going to see if I can't dig up the Q&A discussion where that was addressed. This site was originally going to be "The Lot," but apparently they sold the domain name after being approached by someone associated with a TV show. (thelot.com now directs to the site for Paramount Studios) Found the discussion I'm thinking of, but I'm going to be hunting through the Internet Archive for the actual answer because it's a pain in the neck to try hunting through that many responses on discussions here.
The 48 hour period is over, and responses are no longer being accepted! New responses will not be answered, so please read the multiple answers I've already...

Okay, I found one response from Crash that explains it so far: myLot is actually not an abbreviation for anything longer. A common definition of the noun "lot" is -- "a piece of land forming a part of a district, city, or other community." So the piece of land is our website, and the community is you guys, so... myLot = your community!
