I see some advertisements in travel brochures where they specifically mention that their own food will be served while they are touring and travelling to other places in the world. I feel that tasting and getting to know about food habits of other places is part of the travel experience..Are you particular about having your own food when you travel to other countries or are you willing to experiment and taste the local food of the place you are visiting ?

I've never been outside the states, but if I were to visit another country and somebody said "Let's go to McDonald's", I'd throw my shoes at them.

@cupkitties LOL, but that happens all the time, I guess people find it safer to eat what is known to them rather than try out new dishes

I always eat the local food when I visit other countries. In my opinion that it is an important part of the experience, and I have eaten lots of delicious food that way I love to experiment and try new things and travelling gives me the chance to do that. I have also ordered a few dishes that I didn't like, but things like that happen sometimes and I don't consider it a big problem. I just memorize the name of the dish so that I don't order it again.

I would look forward to trying their cuisine as part of the journey - I can't abide people who just use food like at home when abroad - they might as well stay at home.

@kiran8 they often dislike a food without even trying it. I was the only one of my family to try and enjoy frogs legs

Hello @kiran8 ,
I have never traveled outside my country, but Pretty and I do eat foods made by people native to the country where those foods are their normal diet. Does that count?
I do have a few peculiarities that I have a problem overcoming. I could eat rice, but if something reminds me that my brother told me what rice is made from when I was little, I will uhm... give the rice back. Uhm... it may not be in as pretty a shape as it was when I received it.
I prefer not to eat insects of any kind. I have and will uhm... return them, also.
Otherwise, I have had no problems eating and enjoying foreign cuisine.

I like having options. If I try another countries foods and I don't like it I want to have something I can eat available to me. I appreciate the Chinese or Mexican restaurants here locally that have their own menus but also have American food options. That tells me they respect our right to choose and that we are choosing to eat at their establishment because they give us this options. I usually have kids with me and sometimes they are in the mood for the menu food and sometimes they just want a hamburger.

I have not been to another country but I know for sure, I will not be eating Indian Dishes when I am touring. A very simple reason is that even here, in India, these hotels do not serve us the tastes that we are tuned to.
For instance, if you prepare a dish at home, I am sure no hotel can ever get you that taste. And many a times, you will find that the same dish at those hotels costs prohibitively high but tastes crap.
Even when in India, and I get a chance to eat out, I do not eat food that I can have at home. So definitely, Indian food is out of question when at Hotels abroad (or foreign lands).
Another reason, is that when I will tour a different nation, I would love to get into their tastes.
Also, to know if these people back in India, really serve me the same stuff? For instance, if in India, I order a Mexican Dish, i am unsure, if that is really a Mexican Dish or even it is the right way that dish is prepared at Mexico. So I would get a chance to verify that sides too

if i can't eat them, i would at least taste them. i can't handle spicy food and raw food, though. i'm used to spoon and fork, i can manage with knife and fork, also eating with my hands, but i can't use chopsticks at all.

If I ever get to travel, I would prefer to immerse myself fully in the culture and including food of course with safety in mind.

I have never been to abroad. However, whenever I get a chance to visit abroad, I would surely like to taste local food. I believe, when in a foreign country, we cannot get our own authentic food.

@kiran8 - Yeah, whenever I happen to visit a new place I try to get local delicacies because they taste different and most of the time are delectable.

Hi :)
That should be surely part of the journey. When you are travelling any places and visiting the famous things there, then food is also part of that place. So experiencing it is a good thing. I am vegetarian, so if the local food is vege then I used to try it out for sure wherever I go during my journey.
