Don't get alarmed.. I am following you..
I have been confused with follow and following and my attempts to follow people did not work earlier..
So if I have not followed you still I will follow you formally though I regularly comment and respond to your posts here..
I may also weed out followers who are not active.. so bear with me..

I actually could not understand those who take time to follow but does not really appear on my posts. lol, if that is what they mean by following then I'd rather not have followers. Following must be felt and if I feel it, I always make myself felt as well.

@MarshaMusselman Yes, anybody can go to another person's profile page and see recent activity and discussions. I am not sure that newer users understand that yet, though, which might be why some of them choose to follow people regardless of whether or not they interact with them. I also suspect that some hope that if they follow others, then those people will also follow them (I think that might have been what you were saying here), but it really does not have any benefit for most people.
@salonga I do not follow a lot of people ... well, my profile says that I am following a lot of people, but most of them were just transferred over from my "friends list" when myLot changed format. I have not chosen to "follow" a lot of people with the new format, because I can easily go to a person's profile and see their activity and discussions without following them. However, I do interact with a lot of people in many different discussions, so they feel my presence regardless of whether or not I am "following" them.

I think some people feel that if they don't have many followers then those looking at their profile won't follow them either. They may not realize that any of us can look at anyone's activity to see whether they are active or not and that would be one reason to visit with a person whether following them or not.

I rarely keep track of who follows me but I do check to see if someone I might have missed and want to follow in return

I just leave the inactive followers on in case they wake up again - dormant volcanos can suddenly erupt after centuries

Well, if they are following them down a dark alley with a shiny object inhand, then it might be a bit alarming. Then again, I am not sure I would choose to follow someone down a dark alley, either, because the creepy aspect could go either way.

Everyone that is following me, I am now following them, except for one that I blocked awhile back. I always accept friends, as the more friends we have the more interaction, and the more earnings to be had all the way around. I am very thankful to those who want to follow me.

@sofssu I feel the same way. i have a lot of friends in here, so I will be responding to discussions for a very long time. I like the concep of theinteraction though, as it makes us all work togehter to earn, and that is the way it should be. I know I am following you, so if you aren't followning, me, that is okay too. You end up missing some sometimes, that is for sure.

I am normally not alarmed when I find that someone is following me ... well, at least when it is here at myLot that is. There are times when I wonder why the person is following me, especially if I notice that he or she does not have a lot of activity and I do not recognize him or her from any discussions, but it does not really bother me one way or the other. I just like interacting with people all over discussions, and we can do that whether we are officially "following" each other or not.

@sofssu I can understand if it is a routine that you do, and it makes things easier on here. It does not make it easier for me, but maybe that is because I am following too many people ... or too many people I am following create multiple discussions. It seems that the same people tend to always appear under the "People" tab, and they are not necessarily ones that interest me at the moment.

@purplealabaster Like I mentioned before.. I like to follow a pattern to make interaction easy.. People first and explore next is my motto. Follow helps show all followers discussions under people.

I do not pay much attention to that list as there are ways to respond to interesting posts regardless of who has posted them.

@sofssu If they have followed you then they should look for your posts.

@sofssu,I have many followers who have been inactive.I don't have time to delete them, because if I try to do so,I would have to let go a major part of the limited time I have. Therefore I utilize this time in interacting and starting discussions.

I've never taken the time to weed out those I follow elsewhere, and I don't plan on doing so here either.

@MarshaMusselman I guess there are ways of keeping up with those who actively comment and interact with you.. Its easy to comment back on their discussions as they respond to our posts.

It doesn't always mean that I'll be visiting with all those I chose to follow, especially if they never visit with me, but it could change one day when their circumstances change, and then I could be out a good connection.

Is it necessary for us to get the permission of someone we want to follow?

No, we can follow anyone that we want to follow. If we like what they are writing or are interested in interacting with them, then we can choose to follow them. They might follow us in return, but they do not have to.
Personally, I do not follow a lot of people, because I do not see the benefit in it. I have been here a lot of years, though, so I can find people very easily. I know that a lot of newer users like to use the "follow" option, because it helps them to find people faster.

Hope you are following me. What matter most is that you come and join me in my discussion (and that you do often). For me any user who come and respond to my discussion is very important for me because s/he came forward to check my response and shared his/her views.

I do that once a month or so, go through my followers and see if I need to unfollow any to make room for new, as I want to keep those I follow to a point I can manage
