About twelve years back one day I was asked by my professor to speak before an audience comprising professors and students of my collage.I was shocked.I began with stuttering, but later somehow gained confidence and flow. The audience liked my oratory. That was the day when I discovered that I could address an audience.
Again one day I saw the night watchman of our locality. The whole locality was fast asleep. He was the only one wide awake. For the first time I realized how hard poor people had to struggle to make both ends meet.
Calculus had been a tough subject for me.One day I decided to understand it on my own. With rapt attention I studied the book and in a few hours succeeded in grasping the subject properly. That was the day when I discovered the truth that I could learn anything if I concentrated on my studies.
The list of my discoveries doesn't end here.As I grew up,I discovered many truths about myself and others.Life is a story or a long chain of discoveries. This is how I define life.

Some are able to make discovery like yourself but many blindly walk through life... I feel life is full of surprises both pleasant and unpleasant and we keep on learning how to handle them .It is a never ending process, that is my opinion !

@kiran8,That's how we grow up.You are right. Some of us go on living blindly through life.So far as I am concerned,I have been facing many ups and downs of life in which I often was a victim,at the receiving end.You may call it my destiny that deprived me of many great opportunities, but it also enabled my sensitivity to develop. You are also right that this learning process continues throughout our life.

@kiran8 We all have to face ups and downs of life, but if we keep our eyes, ears and hearts open,we go on learning valuable lessons from them and in this process life finally gets balanced. However I would like to say that much depends on our 'sanskars'- the values we inherit from our parents and elders.

@softbabe44,We learn a lot from life. The ups and downs others have in their lives teach us valuable lessons and make us more sensitive. All we need is keep our eyes, ears and heart open.

Yes, nothing is hard once we determine to learn.
I think we can learn everything, and anything we want if we put our heart to it.
The problem is our limited time and resources.
If we have to work at a full time job for nearly 9 hours a day, there is not much time for us to learn something else.
We just have to be selective, and learn something that is useful and will continue to be useful for the rest of our life.

there are parts of being poor that affect you for years, even after you aren't poor anymore

@Jessicalynnt,You are right. While realizing truths we go on overcoming our weaknesses and rise over our poverty, but bitter experiences leave their imprints on our psyche.
