Tales of the Village - Celebrity Cat-napping

If there were a league table of well known or celebrity kitties in our village, I'm pretty sure that my lad, Baloo would be in the top five. He has his own facebook page which was started by one of the regulars at the local pub where he spends a LOT of time. Another cat - better known than Baloo because more people go to the supermarket than to the pub - is a ginger fellow referred to by all (including his humans) as 'Co-op Cat'. Co-Op cat lives near the Co-Op supermarket and strolls about the place like he owns it. Last night Co-Op cat's mum posted on the village facebook page that she was worried about him as he hadn't been home for his tea. Today it emerged that he had been bundled into a car by a lady outside the Co-Op, driven up the road and dumped in the next village. Luckily someone in that village had seen that he was missing and let his mum know where he was. The intrigue is building and the village cat lovers are incensed. The staff at the Co-Op adore Co-Op Cat (even though they have to pretend that they don't because he really shouldn't be in a food shop) and have offered to check the CCTV footage to see if they can identify who the driver was. The thing which now has me wondering is that Baloo went missing for 3 weeks and was found in another village about 8 miles away. I'm wondering if Pub Cat and Co-Op Cat were both abducted by someone who didn't appreciate their wandering ways. Fortunately both came back due to the power of Facebook.

Mmm you do have to wonder don't you? But who could be so mean. I mean I chase the cats out of the garden (because if I don't they tend to use it as a toilet and I have young children) but I'd never go so far as to relocate them, that takes a particularly twisted mind

Co Op Cat and Baloo both have bad reputations for breaking and entering and not everybody loves cats. But it's hard to imagine that people would do such spiteful things to much loved animals.

Maybe we could stick the perpetrators in a car, drive them to a place they don't know and dump them

What kind of crazy people decide to catnap local celebrity felines and try to lose them in strange villages? I would love to see someone catch them at it. Some people are just a special kind of mean.

Even if the CCTV doesn't have any evidence, I hope the catnapper is feeling very nervous.

Thank goodness for facebook! I do not understand people who would take someones pet and try to off load them somewhere else.

It's going to be VERY interesting if the CCTV helps identify who did it. I have my suspicions on CoOp cat's adventure but I'll be interested to see if I'm on the right track.

To think that life in a village is boring!

I have in mind a series of posts on 'village life' and the stuff people get excited about round here. It's not quite Lake Wobegon but there's plenty of controversy over dog poo and parking.

Seems there is a catnapper on the loose. The village needs to get together and set some traps. Hopefully he or she will be caught before any real damage is done to the poor kitties.

I'm glad the cats were returned safely. That's just horrible that people would take them and move them somewhere else, not knowing the cats personal life, where it lives, who owns and feeds it. This is half of the reason I keep my cats indoors all the time. That and I worry about the traffic and wildlife. My guys may not be able to get out and explore, but I always know they're safe.

That is just wrong to want to do harm to anyone's pet.

Glad they returned safely! Whoever does that to cats obviously doesn't like them much. Hope the CCTV footage can help them identify the person who did that.
