It is always a dilemma when a young couple wants to get married, and settle down.
They have to decide on where to stay, and the budget for a house.
Sometimes they want to live in an estate with great school, and that means to buy houses near the school.
This means the location is great, but the house is old.
An old house needs more maintenance than new house.
The pipes are probably rusty and old, and there is a need to rewire the whole house.
If they buy new house, the price is much lower, and the estate is new, and all facilities are either new or under construction.

Yes, many people learn the hard way.
In the context of Singapore, parents basically worship education.
Some of them do not plan well, and they move to a place far from a good school.
In the end, their children cannot get into good school because of distance.
It is a shame!

@scheng1 Singapore is not very large and it has good public transport system right ? Is it really difficult to travel from place to place ? and are there no transport facilities provided by the educational institutes ? Just curious to know ..I have visited Singapore several times and to me it seems like one of the most perfect countries in the world ..

@kiran8 yes, it is not big, but when you have to take a bus, switch to MRT, and take another bus to school, you will experience the frustration of travelling so far to go to a school.
Many parents let their kids take school bus, and sometimes it takes about an hour to reach school.
Those kids are the ones staying furthest from school, so they have to board the bus first. The school bus will go to pick up other students.
It is a waste of time. Some parents shift near to good schools, so that their kids can walk to school

It is tough to buy a great apartment in a great location everywhere in the world.
The price is usually out of reach for 90% of the people.
That includes nearly all the public servants, and general workforce.
Those who buy the great property usually have to work like slaves for many years to pay off the mortgage.
