Henriette Reker, an independent candidate for mayor in Cologne - Germany, had been stabbed in chest and neck by a German unemployed, 44 years old, yesterday during an electoral meeting, from political reasons. The man declared after he was arrested his reason for that act was the racism, because he doesn't agree with the acceptance in Germany of the refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
Beyond of yesterday's attack, Henriette Reker won the elections that took place today, and she is the new mayor of Cologne. She won directly after the first tour with 52.64% of votes, against the other candidate, the social democrat Jochen Ott. The presence to elections was only 40%, since Cologne has a population of 980 000 inhabitants, being the fourth city of Germany regarding the population.

I wonder when will be people get fed up with this racism issue. Now he will go to jail for nothing. I wish he found another way of solving that issues instead of stabbing

2 or 3 days ago, a 7 years old toddler was stabbed 6 times by a man when he was in the middle of a street in France : I am not sure that we have to find a motivation each time a mad man stabs someone... And politically speaking, he probably helped her to be elected at the first tour : to be victim of a violent attack generates sympathy.

I think there it can not be found any motivation to make someone to suffer. Only a sick mind person can do it. I thought yesterday exactly as you, maybe the sympathy had a big contribution to her victory. Or...maybe not :)
