I am listening to a podcast that discussing the fall of economy today and on the background they are playing Humpty Dumpty. Then I recall I never heard nursery rhymes for ages.
Is this still being played to children today? Because I doubt that even my nieces and nephews knew about Jack and Jill or Baa Baa Black Sheep or Hickory Dickory Dock.
Well, my favourite is Jack and Jill and Old MacDonald. How about you?

I do not think that most children know nursery rhymes or very many fairy tales. Times have changed.

Time really changed, @DeborahDiane and @vickyrose have you saw the story of Sleeping Beauty at Maleficent? Gosh, they took out the love from Prince Charming. :(

My kids were exposed to them. We read a lot to them ever since they were wee little babies - and the mommy and me type classes often sang the songs. When I was a kid, it was all about the rhymes as poems in a book, whereas in classes these days they seem to teach it through music. I don't know if I have a favorite - I was always intrigued by Hey Diddle Diddle!

@wiLLmaH Gadget has spoiled them so much. I'm glad I had a nice childhood with playing around the ground, playing hide and seek and more. That's lot of fun

@redvakaurvaki They miss those kinds of stuffs. I bet a lot of children now do not have scarcs on their knees. Because they only play is gadgets that do not require any drastic moves, unlike the one we play on our childhood.

nursery rhymes can have quite a sinister origin - Ring a ring o'roses is about the plague. Humpty Dumpty was a siege cannon that collapsed a wall during the English Civil War, etc. They are fun for children to recite though

Many nursery rhyme books still abound in stores and homes. I think many kids are still exposed to them more than we think.

I agree with you! But thanks to my mom who still plays nursery rhymes because she's teaching in preschool before. I think my favorite is the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

My favorite is Rock a Bye Baby. I used to sing it when I let my children go to sleep. Oh I miss those days.

My grown up kids used to listen to the Nursery Rhymes a lot. We sang along with the cassette tape being played all day long. Incy Wincy Spider, Three Blind Mice were a were a few of the favorites.

My youngest granddaughter has recently learned Itsy Bitsy Spider (does that count as a nursery rhyme?)
