Is Having A Blog Worth It

Among the questions that come up when people are deciding whether they should start a blog or not is the question of how much money is involved. I am not going to pretend I make a living off of my blogs, I don't. I am sure that some people do but I did not necessarily start my blog with the intention of making lots of money. What I wanted was creative control of my writing. With so many sites going belly up or keeping my work or just changing the way they pay I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster for the last two years. I decided that I wanted to be in control of my own work. I have written thousands of articles, many of which have been plagiarized but they are mine and I need a home for them. Additionally, as a travel writer I do many press visits and the places I visit love that I have a blog and they promote the articles I write about them which is very satisfying. So for me, a blog is a big YES it is worth it. Plus it is fun. Have I convinced you yet? What are your reasons for blogging?

Once I blogged for the joy of it. But now, it's for the 50 points that Blogjob offers. I know that nothing I write or do will outlast me. So, I may as well get what I can while I am here.

I always say whatever floats your boat. For me I just turned down a paying writing gig because I didn't feel like doing it. Money doesn't motivate me the way it did when I was younger. I am at the point in my life where I do what interests me, the money or points are just a bonus. You have such a great style of writing that I am sure some of your work just may survive you. Don't underestimate yourself. I love the way you see things.

That makes sense. My genealogy blog seems to have developed a life of it's own. People are very interested in it.

At the moment I have 5 blogs that are public and one private one. I enjoy keeping up with them.

i reckon it depends'n one's passion 'n interests 's to how 'successful' their blog'll be. i do agree with the outright ownership'f one's written words - that's a bonus, particularly when yer pennin' 'f schtuff from yer own personal 'xperiences. i've no 'xpectations from any online writin' 'n got roped into bloggin'. i still can't believe i finally 'greed to such.

All of my sites exist to make money and to let me have some fun. Before I start a site, I figure out if can effectively monetize it. Most make enough money to cover their costs, some make a lot more than that.

I agree with you about a blog, I already have one, but I need a quiet week to take the time to develop it.

Yes it does take a little quiet time. This morning I went and promoted 4 out of 5. I need to add photos to my photo blog.

I haven't blogged in a very long time. I guess I was boring or something, not sure exactly why I didn't get much traffic. Oh I know! I didn't put a lot of energy into it either, that's probably why. I do like these social media blogettes though, mainly because I can write a tiny bit and see results pretty fast. Granted the results aren't spectacular, but neither is my participation. For me, it's a good match.

We all find our niche for writing and when you are enjoying yourself, that is what counts.
