I have been a Care Assistant for the past 2 years, and I love my job very much. The people I care for are adorable in their own way.. I do anything from general house keeping duties to washing, bathing and dressing my clients. All being said, I prefer to call them my ladies and gents.. I have lost track of how many times one specific lady I care for tells me off for having a day off haha, and another who goes into a mood when I dont go round on my day off.. She lost her husband not too long ago, and I go round to give her medication, watch TV and have a cup of tea with her.. Only because she and her husband were together for over 60 years and spent every evening together.. She misses that. What do you do, and do you enjoy it??

You are obviously very kind, and I suppose you need to be in your job.

You would actually be surprised on how many Carers just see it as a job.. No care there really.. I like to report these people and tell them too. My ladies and Gents mean the world to me, after all, I am a big part of their lives and they trust me.

@JustEm I understand that completely, you must be a lifeline for them - probably the only person they see all day.

@jaboUK That is pretty much the case, making them happy makes me happy, which makes my hubby and daughter happy. It's win win..

You have my utmost respect for the way you approach your job, or should I say vocation. I'm sure you make a huge difference to your ladies and gents on a daily basis. I'm a software developer and I can't stand it!! But it pays the bills!

Software development is one thing I would love to get in to, but never seem to get round to learning! As far as my work goes, I sometimes feel that I am the only carer that actually does care.. I need to set the standard for my work colleagues to follow.

@JustEm Having had a brother-in-law with severe disabilities I have seen the best and worst of carers. Sadly, people with your attitude are all to few and far between.
