Which countries have the highest levels of happiness?

Happiness Report

The World Happiness Report find that the happiest countries are those that build stronger social ties, better-managed commons, and a strong sense of community. I will put the countries in order. Number one is Switzerland, number two is Iceland, number three is Denmark, number four is Norway, number five is Canada, number six is Finland, number seven is Netherlands, number eight is Sweden, number nine is New Zeland and number ten is Australia. Each of these Countries has something Special that has put them on this list. I thought this was interesting. My Country is not on this List.

Great to see that New Zealand is featured there. I once read that the tiny Pacific island of Vanuatu was the happiest place in the world. I quite believe that, having been there and observed the happiness of the people first hand.

Val, I would imagine that there would be different results depending on who is doing the research.

So the colder countries are happier. My country isn't on the list either.

I wouldn't have thought Australia would be considered a colder country! Even here in New Zealand, half of our country rarely encounters snow, we're a reasonably mild climate compared with some.

I will not go by which country is the happiest but who is the happiest and there perhaps I would top the list Because I know it is not how much one has but what one makes of what one has is the route to happiness.

Philippines is the home of the funniest people they enjoy and have fun but when the time comes that they need to be serious, they change that's why they are versatile in the problems that they encounter.

Over the years, I have been in touch with many people out here. I find people from Philippines more inclined to be happy go lucky. Less unhappy posts from them.

@Shyamalaa Very good question! I once saw a report and I remember it saying some of the key indicators were the GDP and healthcare of each country. Plus I think they sample people from within those countries for their honest opinions.

I guess there are many such lists made through different surveys , here is one where the happiest country is Panama and Switzsrland stands fourth , while India is 70th ....I thought we were not all that unhappy !
A new report used interviews with more than 146,000 people around the world to rank 145 countries by the well being of their residents.

Wow, I am impressed to see that the USA is #23. I am happy with that as most of us live a life of rushing and running here and there and not getting much time to relax.

It's interesting to notice that almost all the positions in the top 10 are occupied by countries with cold climates. In theory it should be quite depressing to live in an area where it's cold and dark for most of the year and the sunny days are very precious, but it seems that those countries have reached such a level of prosperity that their inhabitants are very happy to live there and feel no need to move to warmer lands. I guess happiness has very little to do with the type of climate in which we live and a lot more in common with the economic and social context in which our existence takes place.

Some of those countries do have 24 hours of sunlight in a few months in the summer. That should make people happy. I know it did when I was up there.

I think the sense of community thing is very important for levels of happiness. Helping others can be a huge boost to levels of self-esteem and happiness.

Mine isn't either. We could learn from them, but won't. We're stubborn that way. What they have in common is health care for everyone, paid family leave and free education (most through college).
