Why I've Deleted All My Tags

Every time I open myLot I find Discussions under the headline 'Interesting' by members I don't know on subjects I'm not interested in. I've wondered who or what decides what I'm interested in. Don't I know that better myself, thank you very much?
Then I was struck by an insight! I had a look at the lists of ins and outs of myLot every newbie should read. I must confess that I hadn't done so yet the reason being that I could find what I needed without any help rather quickly. If I didn't know or understand something my online buddies from the B site who've already been here for some time explained it to me.
I found this: "Interesting" is "populated with posts based upon the tags you've used on myLot" . . . If you are a new user or have not tagged your posts, the results are likely to be unpredictable. If you do not use tags in a sensible and responsible manner, then you are probably not getting the best out of MyLot."
Aha! So there is no mysterious Someone or Something sending me Discussions I don't want to read. I'm responsible for them myself! I checked my Discussions and found some general terms I'd used as tags like, for example: tea, coffee, Germany, beer, teacher, myLot (!) etc., etc. Not surprisingly I'm flooded with loads of Discussions containing these terms.
So I decided to eliminate all tags. Fortunately I've only written 23 up to now. It was quickly done. According to the explanation quoted above I won't now 'get the best out of myLot'. That is disputable. I doubt that there's a member who's come to a Discussion of mine following a tag. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm basing this assumption on what I do or rather don't do. Members read my Discussions because they already know me and like what I write or because the title I've chosen attracts them. Should there be someone with a special interest in, say, chair lifts - a topic which isn't as widely discussed as tea or beer, for example - they can find me via google. I've checked that. It's easy peasy. I will definitely 'get the best' out of myLot if I start my time on the site in a good mood and don't get annoyed every time I open it.
I hope that the system will react soon. I've just checked. I'm still flooded with 'Interesting' Discussions which are to me anything but.

Sheesh MALUSE, you've beaten me to the post with this one! I have a post written on this very subject but haven't posted it yet. I deleted all my 'poem' tags yesterday as I was fed up getting every poem or reference to a poem in my interesting list. Also I've deleted a tag of a certain country.
It does work as I have none of those sort of posts in my list now.
(Now I'll have to look at the article I've written to see if it covers anything you haven't. Otherwise I'll have to bin it).

I only use tags on my own post which are relevant to the topic. If I have not added any tags on posts written by others I wonder what I will see under interesting posts.

I don't know if you can delete tags added by other members to your discussion (it was not possible in the past), but anyone can tag a response, and it will be used to index your discussions. I think that if you delete all your tags you will find in "interesting" the discussions similar to the discussions you responded to... based on their tags. Personally I browse usually the "Most Recent" discussions, rarely "Interesting".

@yukimori It is a very good thing. I had my own method to remove an unwanted tag in the past, but it could work only once : they were displayed by alphabetical order, and you had just to add tags before until the unwanted tag disappeared... at least from the screen, as it was probably still in the system, but no more displayed.

@MALUSE Okay with Chrome it works, I wonder why it won't with Firefox. Thank you I am now busy deleting.

@BelleStarr I use Chrome. It's a boring activity, so I do only about ten posts each day. I've never encountered a problem up to now.

I am thinking of posting a discussion about Donald Trump . . this may end up interesting as he is the front-runner of the GOP party. . haha

I always forget to use tags here. I've always seen them as useful only in attracting outside traffic - something I don't expect to do here.

I've used tags and I don't think I'd delete them because of the discussions I see under the "Interesting" heading, mostly because I check the "Recent" heading more often. So they don't really bother me much. That said, I'd love to see discussions sort into respective categories, I think it makes more sense when we're trying to find a particular topic that interests us.

hmm, i don't get much in the line 'f what lil i've tagged since i pulled into town. do see purty much the same schtuff from the same folks though, which i find quite perplexin'. i'm certain there's more folks than i'm seein' 'n somehow feel i'm missin' out - e'en goin' to the 'explore' 'n perusin' through all the offerin's there seems sometimes a mute point...coz i've already read those'f interest to me. i aint one much fer titles nor tags. more'f a meat 'n taters kinda gal i reckon?

I hadn't realised that but I also hadn't paid much attention to what MyLot thought was interesting. Good tip.
