Wished for a gun today. . . .

Not that I know how to use a gun or really have the desire a pull a trigger or whatever you do to make it shoot.
Some awful hawks have killed off two fan tailed Doves on the grounds where I am working today. They swooped down and grabbed the baby Doves and flew off and I could hear the poor birds screaming - really upsetting.
An idle thought but just only that. Perhaps I could only shoot to save my life but this I will never know as I do not possess or have any desire to own a gun.
*sighs* Blinkin hawks!

They were so beautiful and tame too as I had them in a bird house (very spacious as they could fly) so that they could get to know this was there new home. They had only been out a few weeks and were settled in the Dove Cote

@cynthiann Wow - that must be a very big bird house! It's hard too as it grips our heart as parents - oh how the dove parents must feel to have their babies taken like that!!

@much2say The Bird House is really huge - larger than my sitting room. There is also a Dove Cote that has four tiers to it and the birds have their own compartments! There are well over a hundred pigeons and birds. Now - don't get me started on the peacocks - nearly 50 of them!

Aww.. so sad. I've seen hawks grab kittens out of yards, and other birds. It is sad but it is nature. I still think humans are worse for the things they do to animals.

@cynthiann They'll take anything small enough to fit in their talons. It's always possible that the little doves escaped.

@katsmeow1213 Regretfully no, because there were masses of feathers falling from the sky and then they stopped screaming.

I know that you are right but I can still hear their cries! I never knew that hawks took kittens too!

While I understand that must be difficult to see, the hawks have no such emotion and they are birds of prey and have to survive too.

Theoretically I do understand this but the cries were awful to hear

We get them here, too. I think the locals call them "valley hawks," whatever that means. They pick the birds out of their nests, and the baby squirrels, too. They drop pieces of their dinner in my driveway. When they're around, the mockingbirds go crazy, and send up an alarm cry that takes over the neighborhood. They are not afraid of much, but the mockingbirds will dive-bomb one if it comes in. I can't stand them, but they probably also eat rats and mice, so maybe it's not too bad. What you saw would have haunted me for days.

I once saw a raven fly off with a baby sparrow. It was heartbreaking...

Please do not blame that poor hawk. That is how it is ordained. It is nature's way. We are all here to kill for survival. Don't we kill pigs, cows, hens. Sad but true.

The circle of life seems so unjust sometimes.
