Brain Food

The child is studying - Final Big examinations for University but she is grumpy and stressed like catgut - an expression when one is "Stressed out beyond description. From the use of catgut to make violins" I decided to help her along this week with dinners of Greens - there are many brain foods, but greens come up best. Tonight we had Green Tai Curry with a lovely green salad. Tomorrow she will be served some sushi - the fishy kind as Fish is full of " EPA and DHA in a ready-made form, which enables the body to use it easily. The main sources of oily fish include salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, pilchards and kippers." She will be eating the Salmon kind sushi. How do you prepare your children for BIG examinations and help them achieve their goals? Do you know any other brain foods??

The only thing you can do is support her and be there when she needs it. Brain food. Hmm You have to have a good brain in the first place.!

Yes walnuts, look at a half walnuts, what does it look alike? A small brain! Many times food that look alike an internal organ is good for that specific organ.

Well, my Mom has always believed in fish and yes, most green veggies. My Gran still believed in a teaspoon of cod liver oil every morning, but, I think most would run from that, I know I did!

@Inlemay , I am there with M, I would run a mile from cod liver oil! Definitely tuna is kinder and maybe a tuna salad could still help give a boost. :-)

So you were born SMART - I bet you didnt eat any junk food either . . . well this child had junk food now and then, so she must get some brain food to stimulate the right brain cells - HOPEFULLY

@Inlemay When I grew up in post-war GDR (German Democratic Republic) there was no junk food. There was little good food, either. There was no real milk to be had, only skimmed milk. This was not sold so that people could slim! The fat was used to make butter. If my grandparents hadn't had an allotment and a goat and rabbits, it would have been really hard for us.

@MALUSE I think all the additives that are found in most foods and sweets kill brain cells - I try keep reds, and colours away from my children all their life - but a student is difficult - so she is on a green veggie week diet.

We have some herbs here that are supposed to improve one's memory. I prepare a chutney with different herbs and some other ingredients. Here is a link that talks about food suiting our different organs

I think that sushi is a good idea. I am trying to add "brain food" in my daily eating habits as well. I think that honey helps a lot and I remember I used to eat a bar of chocolate right before exam time and it was helpful too.

Pumpkin seeds are a good source for protein, magnesium and zinc which are important for concentration and thinking ability and are very good for the memory. Banana is also good for relaxation because it has substances that increase serotonin levels. Some science studies found out that curry do magic for the brain. Also some sugar is important too especially in the morning, but too much sugar is doing the opposite thing of course.
