Can You Carry a Tune?

I can't. Most of my family can't. It is just one of many talents we lack. My husband can sing, and sings to me all the time. My grandson can carry a tune, and has a sweet little voice. You can imagine our surprise when my granddaughter had to sing, accompanied by a piano, for her audition of Peter Pan (not Mulan). Somehow, she belted out a tune and will be singing and tap dancing in the show off Broadway at age seven. Now I will howl along to the radio.

In our family we are all good singers, but not as much as my mother-in-law who was a Opera singer (soprano).

@DianneN - I confess that I hate to sing hymns in church and I often just mouth the ones that are too high for me!

A principal made us all sing during school performances. I tried to sing on key by following those around me and even have a CD under my belt!

At least the little ones are your saving grace! My siblings and I have this talent and got this from our Dad. My Mom can't sing as beautifully though. Now that I have a family, my only son inherits that talent in singing and not only singing, he can also play various musical instruments.

I like to sing along to songs I like, but only where no one else can hear me. I wouldn't say I can't carry a tune, but it definitely isn't great.

@mom210 I used to sing to my kids, when they were too little to care. They still probably wouldn't care, but I prefer not to.

I enjoy singing and can carry a tune OK. But I wasn't comfortable singing solos until a few years ago. I think I have a shy side. Howling along. Nice.

I've always liked to sing, but I'm not gifted at it at all. My hubby has a wonderful voice. I remember going to a parish breakfast just after we moved out here and a lady came over to our table and complimented him on his voice, she said that she was sitting in front of us. He blushed, but I've heard other people say the same thing. One of our nephews is married to a grade school teacher who is the school's music/dance teacher. She teaches all of the grades, she has a beautiful voice, but told me that we all have a singing voice somewhere inside of us.

Sing your heart out. Go ahead. I can sing and have even performed on stage on several occasions. I just avoid looking at the audience so I don't see the pain I cause.

Your granddaughter is multi-talented with her ice skating, and now singing and dancing. I can't sing.

I can but sometimes my voice wanders (especially when there are pretty ladies around). Everyone in my family sing or could easily carry a tune. My wife, our 4 children, our daughters-in-law and all our 7 grandchildren, all can sing. And the most talented as far as singing is concerned are our youngest 3 grandchildren ages - - 9, 7, and 6. We love listening to them when they sing "frozen." . . In the reception of our daughter's wedding, my wife sang a wedding song instead of giving a speech. I opted to deliver the best speech (that is what I think) in my life instead.

I have a fairly good voice but my granddaughter has an excellent voice and I tell her she should audition on either American Idol or the Voice. How wonderful to hear your granddaughter will be singing and tap dancing off Broadway

Before I had problem with my oesophagus I had a very good voice and had compliments whenever I sang. My husband always said that I should have been a singer. But now I can't sing and I miss that.

I can't sing either and because of that I usually sing to myself or in a very low voice so that no one can really hear me.

That is a good question . . I don't know all my close relatives including my spouse can carry a tune well . . I can but sometime fail. But my wife says that when a little bit tipsy, I sing quite well like Julio Iglesias. .
