Water woes in India

Indiscriminate construction, scant respect for nature, lack of rainwater harvesting and poor urban planning has led to an acute water crisis in most Indian cities. In the early 2000's a lady collector in Chennai alongwith active State Govt. support stopped all construction for several months, introduced water harvesting in every house (whether rich or poor) and the result was that within a year the water table in Chennai rose like anything. The success story was also shown in Satyamev Jayate Programme. Why cant we Indians replicate the success story everywhere because our future generations will probably have to fight for every drop of water. We might have perished by that time but will we like to see our loved ones fighting or may be getting hurt for water.
