There seem to be a lot of Programs out there offering Free Food this is one I think is fairly new.
Have you Heard Second Harvest Heartland is making free food available to qualifying seniors
Through its Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors, NAPS provides a 30 to 35 pound box of food.
This food is available to eligible seniors once a month. Eligibility is based on age (60 years and older), household size and income.
NAPS is a USDA program that is funded through the Farm Bill.
All seniors who are interested are encouraged to apply for NAPS.

Not anything like that around here Marcy. No free food for anyone much.
They are struggling to provide thanksgiving dinners to homeless this year..they are just not getting donations to do so.

That is really good to know. Feels weird being a senior. I have been one for four years now and am not getting any closer to getting used to it. haha

It is too bad more communities don't have something like this.

@Marcyaz I have never heard about anything like this near where I live. We have a food pantry but it is run by the Catholic Church no help from the government.

We make too much money for any kind of assistance programs, but I am glad they are there for those who need them.

@AbbyGreenhill
It is very helpful especially when they only have a small SS to count on every month.

You can try this one:
Second Harvest Heartland, is a Minneapolis-St. Paul food bank. We partner with organizations and volunteers to feed hungry people. Join us to help end hunger.

@GreatMartin
That is not enough to feed a person for a month. Seems like Snap is a joke.
I will research and see if I can find something in your town.

@Marcyaz This seems to just be Minnesota--but thanks.
We are 300 seniors who 'lost' government commodities recently--we get a big $16 a month with SNAP!

That is a great idea. We have some luncheon clubs for the elderly in the UK but more and more are closing down sadly.

I am glad somebody thought of it. It is difficult for seniors to plan their lives. They did not have ways and means to invest in good investments. Not having many opportunities that youngsters have today can mean lower savings. Sad. I know somebody who saw his savings dwindle rapidly after retirement.
