Marvel Comics 1988 – Spoiler alerts Iron Man is summoned by Nick Fury of SHIELD, a kind of CIA agency for monitoring superhero activity, to help locate a sunken military submarine during a fierce storm. Iron Man is led to believe it is a salvage mission but he soon discovers that he is really being sent to check whether a HYDRA created monster created in an evil genetic experiment is dead or alive in the wreck. Why does Fury lie to Iron Man knowing the truth will come out as soon as Iron Man faces the sea-serpent? The whole web of deception is pointless. The serpent looks impress though it is no match for the waterproof and rust-proof Iron Man. Arthur Chappell

I agree, it sounds like if Fury had told him the truth he would have gone anyways

@Jessicalynnt It is just sloppy writing - trying to surprise the reader when the characters ought to know what is going on already.

@arthurchappell that makes no sense, I wonder what the author's rational was for the lie, or if Fury just hates being totally honest

MJy kids used to read all of the super hero comics. We used to sale comics at the flea market. Now I am selling the rest of them on ebay.

I'm sure they'll do well. I go to comic fairs a lot and the library graphic novel section
