5 year old Christmas pudding - will I eat it?

Done - kitchen cupboards tidied up.
I love finding things that I have tucked away and kept for a while. I did find a Christmas pudding that had a use by date of March 2010! Over 5 years out of date, but, hey, I will eat it some time. You never know when you might be fancying a very ripe xmas pudding!
Are you a food hoarder? I keep on tucking things away and forgetting about them, but they do get eaten eventually!

I hope that it doesn't make you sick. It could be moldy or spoiled.

If this is a bought Christmas pudding, as opposed to one that you have made yourself, you might need to be careful with it, but you should be able to see if it is on the way out.
We never eat Christmas puddings in the year that we make them - we tend to eat them at least a year later, because they improve with age. We often only eat a pudding "early" because we need to use the bowl for the following year;s batch!

Not a scrap gets wasted in this house. There is no hidden food anywhere.
I would not eat that Xmas pudding

I just checked the mustard in my fridge, use by 2012 date so I checked a new one in my pantry, use by 2013. I went to the store and bought a new today lol.

My husband recently brought home a half gallon of milk that was a few days past the date. Not recommended.

Can you tell if it is still edible? five years seems like a long time.

Earlier this year I ate frozen fish fingers that were 7 years past their 'use by' date. I didn't notice until after I'd cooked them and checked the pack.

Yes, especially for valuable food but I never eat it. Once I found some chocolate which I bought 1 year ago, then I threw it away 'cause there were a lot of insects on it.
