Have you ever encounter a group of stray dogs which roam in your neighborhood looking for food? Some of these dogs are not friendly and some may attacked if provoked or become protective of their youngs. In my opinion, stray dogs are dangerous especially if they are in groups. I read in the newspaper about stray dogs attacked people and people get seriously injured. I also seen people get chased by these stray dogs. The responsible authority would be called to deal with this stray dogs and when they catch these dogs, they would put them to sleep. Now, I really feel this is not the right way to solve the problem but is there any other way to handle it humanely? I guess for stray puppies, adoption is an option. But for the adult stray dogs, what is the best way to help them? Some may suggest to neuter or spay them then release. In this way, the population of the stray dogs can be controlled. But its not solving anything. The stray dogs will still be out there posing potential danger to human.

I think the best solution would be to teach the community(Since they are the dog owners) how to handle them so that they don't let them out anyhowly. They should also be taught how to relate with them so that the dogs can learn how to be friendly and so cannot attack people incase they are out there

You are right about that Margaret. But stray dogs have no owners. They are freely roaming around anywhere. I believe if and when they are caught, they should be spay, neuter and tamed then released. Stray dogs are never ending problem. Some country have eating stray dogs festival which I think is pretty barbaric.

OH yah we have tons of them here on the islands. They try to control them and pick them up but more and more show up. I wish people would just fix their animals so they couldn't reproduce again. If you have a male and female here it's better to fix the male for some because it's cheaper. Then twice a year when the female goes in heat you can attach her so other male dogs don't come. For me I fix them both. But is's a good idea to fix the male first before he reaches 6 months. You can hold off on the female until she is 11 months. Most female dogs have their first heat around 11 to 12 months.

It is easy to control our dogs than stray dogs. Stray dogs are on the loose and without owners, they have the unlimited freedom to mate and reproduce. I know some people who care for stray dogs. They give them food and look after their well being. Sometimes, those people would even capture the stray dogs and send them to vet to fix them then release. But all those efforts need money and a visit to the vet is not cheap.

@poehere I think there should be a rule for dog's owners whereby when they decided to take a dog, they should sign an agreement or something. They should be responsible to look for a new home for their dogs when they are no longer able to look after i.e. move out or financial problems. In order for people to not just simply sign the paper to get a dog, they too need to fork out a deposit just so when they want their deposit back, they need to report whether the dog has found a new home yet. In that way, the stray dogs will slowly decrease in numbers.

@ellie26 One of the problems for us is people from France come here for a few years and take an animal to care for. When it's time for them to leave they leave the animal behind and now it become a stray. Right now they are gathering them up and trying to fix them all and find new homes for them. This seems to be working and we have a lot less than before/

This makes me sad and I believe the government and the community should do something about this. Per village or subdivision or area, they can have a shelter for dogs and people can adopt these dogs instead of buying new ones.
