Wouldn’t it be great if we had on MyLot a section for …

Same topics – I see a lot of posts greeting their friends for the day, what’s for dinner, and stuff like this. It would be great to have them all in one place. So if you’re not interested or you are interested in this topic you can go there or not go there. I also see a lot of posts that ask questions about MyLot. Wouldn’t it be great to have them all in one place? I also see a lot of discussion about earning money and if people will make payout. Why not have them in one place? I have seen on here in the explorer a section for new people section. Why can’t we just add a few more sections to narrow down our search and our interests? We could even have one on our animals. This is a great topic of discussion and I do see a lot of posts on animals. I would love to go to one sections and see all the posts of animals in one place. The different sections could be easy to add the posts to them. They would be from tags. Then when we search for new discussion on the site it is quicker and easier to find stuff we like. Leave the other sections alone but add a few new ones. This way it saves a lot of people’s time looking for topics they like to answer. What do you think? A good idea or a bad one? From what I understand that is the way it was back in the old days of mylot. I seen an archive of it, and it did seem like it would be a lot easier to find the things of interest for each person's preferences. They do have the 'You might also like' option on the right hand side of discussions, when you reply to one. That might help you to find more topics of interest to you.

@poehere Oh I agree with you there. I do wish there was. It sometimes is a pain to have to combing through 50 discussion you have no interest in, to find one of interest. Who knows, mylot might be keeping track of the 'subjects' and will build us categories in the future. We can only hope.

@TexanTornado That would be wonderful if they did. I do agree weeding through all the stuff is a pan and takes forever to do.

Yah I saw that but most of them I had read and answered. Nothing new in there. I was just thinking of a simpler way to weed through all the new discussions to make it quicker to find what you like to read and interact with.

We had hundreds of categories in the previous interface of myLot. You could create your own category if something was missing for you, and you could even add your own pictures for categories. It was the best forum interface I have ever seen. I suppose it has been abandoned because it was too hard to maintain and maybe a bit difficult to use for newcomers. Some old members don't want to come back because of the actual interface. I think that it would be good to have at least one category for administrative advisement, as it is not always easy to find these posts among others, or at least alerts, as we had with the previous interface.

Maybe your right but a few other ones would be nice. Especially for all the hello's good nights, and what did you eat today. This would be wonderful to narrow down the search options and find interesting post a little easier.

In the previous version of MyLot, we had Categories. It was a good idea in essence but, unfortunately, was either not used correctly or not at at all. It was also possible for any member to create a 'category' with any name that they wanted and that led to a lot of abuse. It was also a very inflexible system because a discussion could only be placed in one category. Since there was also the tag system (which is much more flexible), there were two different systems which did much the same thing, so it was decided to get rid of categories and to rely on the tag system to allow people to find discussions on certain topics. What is definitely needed is some education on the use of tags and it would also be helpful to have a list of 'recommended' or 'stock' tags (selectable from a drop down) as well as 'free form' tags. This has already been suggested to the Powers That Be and is under serious consideration for the next update. It seems to me that what you are thinking of would be addressed fairly well with this system.

I was also going to say that that is how the old Mylot worked. But there were just too many categories to choose from, and some of them were duplicates. It was actually quite confusing. I think it would have worked better if Mylot had created a set of categories and left it at that and didn't allow others to create their own.

I can see allowing people to create a category would lead to many problems. On the other hand if there was only 2 or 3 Added like the one they have for new comer it would help. The tags that dealt with such topics as good morning, afternoon or evening could fall in one place. Such things as foods and topics of food could go in another and maybe one more for question about mylot or one for admin notices. That was all I was thinking about. This would free up the new discussions so it would make it easier to find topic in it if a lot of the topics for these other items were put in another places. Thanks for the great comment and your knowledge is very valuable. I do think you're so correct about teaching people how to use tags. I have seen some issues no this one.

@katsmeow1213 I don't want a ton of categories on here I think that would be an over kill to say the least. I just want a couple to help out some so that it made it easier to find stuff.

In the old mylot, we did have categories where if there were certain types of discussions that we like, they were easy to fine. I am hoping that mylot brings that back again. Since the site is a work in progress, they couild eventually, but they will have to fix any bugs first, and then maybe they will add more things like categories.

@poehere Yea, me too. There are certain things that i like to discuss, and with a category section, it will be much eaiser to find what I am looking for fo r that particular topic.

@rosekiss Just 3 categories would be fantastic - One for friends Hi, hello's and good morning - Another for food such as what you ate, ideas, and talk bout dinner or lunches. - One for all the questions that pop up on My lot about the site and last one for Admin that would be all I would ask for but then they say others would ask for a lot more. Wow hard to please everyone.

They already have a few like Interesting - hot - new and new people. I think it won't happen because of some of the issues from the old site. This could stand in the way from making it happen on this one. Not sure but still hoping on this.

Persona Paper has it set up similar to that. It also adds another section to the template - you would have to have a drop down menu to pick from. This site seems to be more in the relaxed mode, which I think is fine.

From what one person just said here they are considering adding a FAQ section on here and some other suggested an Admin section we might or might not see soon. This is an excellent start of this and some good news if I say so myself. I like it.

Just like me and some others. I wish they would do this to help us weed out some of the other post that only certain followers to certain people will respond to. Allow us to find posts easier that we can talk on and share some interesting topics on. Simple I think not too hard to do this.

I think that is a great suggestion. There should at least a designated tab for topics even if this is broad like Entertainment, Movies, Sports, etc. We can browse discussion and filter this by topic.

Yes I was thinking on the same lines. I feel like it needs a little more topic or areas so it's easier to find discussion. As more and more are added daily it makes it harder and harder to find some of them. I think a few areas would help people narrow down their search.

Good morning, good afternoon, how are you . . or even how was your night topics are not that interesting to most. Lots of bubblers love to write them every morning or afternoon. If MyLot makes another section for those kinds of posts, I doubt it if very many would visit it.

@poehere Anyway, I find it here that not very many make comments in one's post . . I commented to 36 posts (or discussions as they are called here) yesterday and got only 5 comments in my own post.

@antonbunot I have found the same. I don't have all that much time to weed through all the stuff like good mornings and stuff like this to find good post. I tried the people and discussion and find a lot of them there. If they were in categories I think I could find a lot more stuff to comment on. I try to find a lot to comment on but at times I am frustrated to see the posts over and over again and the same ones. I run out of time and just close. When I go back there is a ton more to weed through. I'm sure I miss a lot of stuff I wished I had read and left a comment on.

yes, this is how mylot used to be.. I loved that because I would always go to the topics that I was interested in talking about first.. I don't like that I can't do that now.. it would make it easier to sort through the discussions I would want to respond to. I wish they would bring that back!

Another site I've been on recently has categories, but I actually prefer not to have. Sometimes it's difficult deciding where things should go. I prefer to be able to read and write in a free manner. I like this site because it is about people rather than topics.

I don't think we would need to decide from what I see. I know now that the categories on some of them are arranged by tags. They could easily sort the categories here by tags and put them in there like they do now. This wouldn't be that hard to do at all.

I agree with you. At time i can scroll down and see around 50 new discussion and I will read 1 because the other ones are all the same topic and I don't feel like answering good morning to 49 people or saying what I ate for breakfast to all of these people. I don't mind the posts because all these people have a lot of friends on here. I just think they belong in one place to make it easier to find what we want to read. That's all.

I don't mind searching randomly and seeing what's on folks' minds. If someone ONLY posts about what they had for breakfast, I'll get bored with their posts and probably not seek them out. This evening, I saw some interesting ones on Hillary and today's Republican circus. I got to them via my usual random search method.

I don't live in the US or Canada and some of the posts on politics don't interest me where other stuff like a post I read on finding a new fish in their pond was so cute. I like a lot of different things but get tired of seeing about how much a person makes on here or what they had for breakfast. Sort of could skip these and would be nice if they were located in 1 section so I could pass them buy and find more interesting topics to read.
