Why Is Nudity Such A Big Social Taboo?

I have decided to go a little left field with the topic of my next discussion and get everyone's opinions on why society is so hooked up on nudity. Is the human form in it's natural state really that bad and should being nude in public be a crime (it is here in the UK)?
It's a strange question i know and one so many societies ignore as it's such a taboo subject. Some societies have no issue at all with the naked form and others see it as sinful, but under all our cloths we are all naked and basically the same.
Personally I like my cloths, I live in a coldish country and as such walking around in the buff would not be any fun, however I have no real issue with nudity and I believe we should all be proud of our bodies as they sustain us through life.
Is the media's obsession with the perfect body the reason so many cover up and are those who go for the cloths-less option happier and more confident than the rest of us? There really are so many questions on this subject aren't there.
All the other animals on the plant go without cloths so why not humans?
I hope this one doesn't get me into trouble lol.

I don't think we should feel shame for our bodies but some privacy is good I think. It is a personal choice.
As far as going without clothes goes in my country during some seasons and weather conditions if you went around without clothes might loose something that is attached to you.

I believe that some men in power who were not well endowed, made laws so that they would not look so small in certain places and would therefore feel more equal while being clothed. We are all different and should not be body shamed because we are not built like everyone else.

Interesting topic Paul. In depends on the laws of the country. In naturalist beaches and clubs it is allowed. In public place if there is rule against it the citizens of the country cannot take the risk.
