Blame the coffee pot

I have been puttering about, getting nothing done, not even on myLot. My brain's not working properly. It needs coffee See, earlier today when I was going to make coffee, I discovered that the last time someone pulled the cord out of the percolator, it broke. The plastic housing on the end that plugs into the pot was broken and had come off, leaving the metal contacts for the electricity exposed. I didn't dare use it, for fear of being electrocuted. I pulled out the old drip machine, the one I kept and put away in case of emergency. I washed it all out as best I could and make a pot of coffee in that. Ugh! It was horrible. For one thing, I forgot that you need to use more coffee in the auto drip machine, so it tasted like brown water - brown dishwater. Gross. I dumped it all out, ran vinegar and water through it and then another run through with plain water. Still, there's lime scale or something in spots where the vingegar didn't reach. And I remember now why I hated that coffee maker It leaks water the whole time it is brewing. I am researching the possibility of buying a new cord. I don't want to replace the whole percolator. I might be able to fix the old cord with a bit of superglue to hold the plastic housing on, but it might not be entirely safe. I don't know how I will manage in the morning with either yucky coffee or no coffee. Maybe I can buy a coffee on the way to church. I didn't realize how much the percolator ahd changed my tastes in coffee. I may never be able to use a drip coffee maker again. How do you prepare your coffee? Are you so accustomed to the way you make it that it doesn't taste right if you brew it another way?

It's too expensive to replace the percolator if I can get a cord.

I use a drip machine for the first coffee of the morning, a big mug, then during the day it's espresso for me.

I used this drip machine for years, now the coffee just doesn't taste right. It's what your taste buds get used to, I think.

@LadyDuck Yes, it probab ly tasted worse for not having been used for a long time. The coffee today doesn't taste as bad as yesterday.

@Rollo1 It's not only the habit, coffee pots and drip machines develop a bad taste if not used for months. When in Italy we used the Moca, we boiled coffee grounds to remove the bad smell. The coffee beans are greasy and they live their grease on the machines.

@Rollo1 lol I can't stand the taste of coffee. Maybe there's something wrong with me. I just don't like it and never have. Even funnier is that I used to be a barista!

I am not a coffee drinker but am particular about the tea brand, a brand that is pure tea with no other herbs added in there. Today there is a craze for added blends. Our favourite was Lopchu which brand is now beyond us as it is not available anywhere around unless we buy it online. It was years ago that we gave up and now that I have access to online I ordered for a packet but the price has now gone up ten times or may be more. Also we always wanted whole leaf tea and that is not there any more. So I have settled for pure tea that has a blend of whole leaf and dust.

I have never seen tea powder except for those canisters of iced tea drink mix. I have lots of different teas in my cupboard, but morning must be coffee.

Looks like you had a very u[setting morning! That kind off you wish u would have stayed in bed. Did you get your morning coffee and a new and a cord? For emergency I have a jar of instant coffee put away! I used my dip coffee pot everyday. It was enjoyable reading your post.

I don't have any instant coffee, which I regret. Not for drinking but it's nice to have for flavoring things when I bake. But I used the old drip machine and I hate it, but it will do until I find the right cord for the percolator.

I have a Keurig and I love it. So much so that I have 3 of them, one fr each house.I would imagine that you can find a cord on Amazon, they have just about everything.

Amazon has one. It's a bit pricey for a cord at $13 and its SIX FEET LONG. That's a little too long for my counter area. I have to keep looking. I have a Keurig but it's such a production that I rarely use it.

I don't rely on machines. I drink either perculator or instant coffee at home.

So, do you have a percolator that you use on the stove top? I should have one of those in case of emergency, but the stove burners use more electricity than the appliances that plug in.

Yes, I am very used to the way I make my coffee. I have to make mine weaker because if it's too strong it affects my stomach. Whenever I get coffee out, it's always too strong for me now.

I like my coffee robust, but if it's too strong, it ruins the flavor.

@Rollo1 I agree. If it wasn't for my stomach, I would drink my coffee a little stronger.

I just drink instant coffee. Not very classic I know, but it works for me. I remember in the 80's coffee makers were very popular wedding gifts here, but in my household we hardly ever use one.

A battered plastic filter cone, #4 filter papers, an automatic kettle and a mug that holds almost a pint. And fresh water. That filter cone came free with a pack of coffee some 25years ago, and has travelled to Europe and back a number of times.

A well-travelled filter. It sounds like a travelling way to make coffee, I have become a percolator person and I never thought I would.

@Rollo1 The electric pump espresso machine, of similar vintage, puffed, wheezed and farted its last recently, and has been consigned to the "small electrical appliance" grave in the local recycling facility. It has been replaced by a similarly-priced red retro-style 14-bar pump machine, from the local branch of a German discounter chain, that can froth milk without deafening anyone or resulting in steam scalds in the process... Time will tell how well it fills the boots of its predecessor.

We use drip. Hubby cleans it religiously once a month with vinegar. I do not like coffee from other people very often. I want my own.

I enjoy coffee prepared in a variety of ways .... by me and others... but it sounds like you should go with getting a coffee on the way to church and ordering a new power lead... one thing about my living in a town is that I only have to walk 5 mins in any direction and I can get coffee.... yyeeeyyy.... I enjoyed this brew this morning.....

Very fancy looking. I drink my coffee black, so I don't usually buy the fancy coffees. We have seven Dunkin Donuts coffee shops in town, and three or four small coffee and pastry shops. Coffee is the most popular drink in the world, I think.

I'm a fan of cafetieres - I think they're called French presses over your way - no electricity and not too many moving parts.

I know a couple of people who use a French Press, but do have to heat the water, so you need a kettle of some sort. But I need to make large amounts of coffee at one time, so it wouldn't be ideal. That's why the Keurig sits unused.

DO NOT fix it with super glue. Get a new cord or buy a new percolator. I don't drink coffee, my son does, so I have a drip coffee pot. Occasionally I use the drip pot for hot water for tea.

Best to get an electric kettle for the tea, they are very convenient, use less electricity than heating a kettle on the stove. And the nicer ones have an auto shutoff.
