MyLot question #235,334

Ok, there has been many discussions recently regarding the fact that certain discussions/comments/responses can be removed by the Admin if they don't follow guidelines. Cool, they remove it due to whatever, that I understand.
My question is this: If the Admin removed a discussion, or comment, or response - are you notified? Are you told the reason for it being removed?
After writing hundreds of discussions and comments and responses I would never even know if one of mine had been removed or not.
What do you think?

There was an automatic notification system which sent an email when a discussion/response/comment was deleted by Admin but it hasn't worked for ages. Thus, unless Admin chooses to send you a PM explaining why something was deleted, there is no reason given.
When the automatic email did work, it didn't, as far as I recall, give any specific reason, it merely directed you to read the Guidelines.
If you do find that one of your discussions, responses or comments has been removed and it is still not clear why, from a careful and honest reading of the Guidelines, you should send a Private Message to GoAskAlice asking (politely) for an explanation. It is certainly NOT a good idea to post a 'discussion' asking why your post was removed! The ONLY person who can tell you for certain is the person who removed it!

I think that it actually did give a reason as well as referring you to the Guidelines. I remember helping GAA (back when she was Alice) with the testing of adding new reasons for the deletions. You didn't get a reason if your comment/response was deleted due to the discussion being deleted, but you did get a reason if your personal content was deleted due to a violation.

Great advice! I've seen a few discussions that are nothing but complaints about why this and that happens. I've always thought that the best way is reaching out to the admin ourselves and ask them questions directly.

They have a lot to do yes, but that's all part of it. It takes two seconds to send a 'form' message. I think doing something 'wrong' and not being told so doesn't help the person who it happened to. Maybe I'm just too detail oriented.

@AbbyGreenhill There used to be a 'form' message but it hasn't worked for ages and I guess that the reason it has never been fixed is that, in most cases, it has been shown to be ineffective.
If you violate the Guidelines in a venial way, Admin will generally send you a PM. If you commit a mortal sin (such as ignoring a previous warning or spamming or doing a number of other things as listed in the Terms). Then your account may be summarily removed without warning and without explanation.

the only reason they notify you is if you went against the rules in writing a discussion..cause it happened to me.. and yes i was told..
a comment or response might be reported but if admin. feels it should be removed..then it is and you won't know unless you notice it is gone..maybe some action if you keep doing it..

@rosekitty so we are notified what rule we broke if it's a discussion, but not if it's a comment or response?

well I love the fact they at least tell you if they pull a discussion, that's shows some solid ethics, more than like bubbs ever did

If it was a serious violation, I will likely be sending you a warning through private message. I remove so many posts through out the day however that to do so for each one would be impossible. At the moment, the auto-notification, which sends notice that your post was removed is not functioning. If and when it is fixed, you will receive notification for each removed post.

It is not necessary that admin will notify you if a discussion is removed due to violation of guidelines. Suppose, you start a discussion and it is deleted due to violation of guidelines, it will not reflect in the list of discussions started by you. The list (of discussion) is available on your own page.

I guess @owlwings has given a proper explanation regarding this. It would be frustrating to have our discussions removed without knowing why, for sure. But I also think that it's best to address the admin directly if there any concerns or complaints.

Well, I have no idea if anyone will be notified. Luckily I didn't receive any notification yet. Kidding aside. I hope my comments won't be remove as I am very careful of what I say or comment in every discussion here.
