I had band practice tonight and it was very loud. I think I will start wearing hearing protection. But the problem with hearing protection is that you don't hear the music as well and then your playing ability suffers from it. It's too bad you can't have the best of both worlds, but if I want to keep hearing at 60 I better start listening to my ringing ears.
The practise went awesome, there was only the 3 of us. I the drummer, the guitarist and our female vocalist. Sometimes when you simplify down the sound it improves the sound of the band as a whole. We just really clicked and had good chemistry. We are hoping to get at least 4 songs done professionally by April. And then it will be a goal of ours to play at Kempenfest, which is a fairly big venue in my town.
I have been at this music thing for quite some time now so it would be nice to finally see some progression. The problem is keeping a band together. It just seems that everyone that has been in our band has left within the year because we haven't made it big yet, but thats not the point of music and those type of people will be running from band to band looking for a free ride. But the guitarist and I have pretty much stuck it through thick and thin over the past 5 years. It has been hard at times but we always saw the value that probably no one else saw. And now I believe we have something special and we will soon take it to the world. And no matter what reception we get we will be ok with that because we do music for us, not for others. And if others get into what we are doing then thats cool but to me I feel the main part is getting through my life and living it to the fullest and thats why I do music.
If you have some thoughts on how music has changed your life then I would love to hear them. Rock on everyone...

May I ask why you have the music so loud in practice? Most musicians I know keep the volume very low on the stage so they don't get feedback or distortion.
As for how music has changed my life, that would take several books to articulate....
Good luck with your band!

Well I find to play soft is boring and for me defeats the purpose of music in the first place. It is suppose to be fun and that is why the style of music we play is unique as well the way in which we play it.
