Palm Oil Soup anyone?

I am a complainer - I love to complain about things that are not right, be it bad service in restaurants or poor quality products. . . and today I get to practice my sport of complaining! On Friday I bought a packet of chicken soup from Tesco for the Mrs to take to work, normally, we make our own but, these packets of dried soup powder are handy for a quick hit of warmth on a cold day. We tried one each, and it was absolutely disgusting! Tasted very salty and no chicken flavour at all. I looked at the ingredients on the packet and was shocked to read that the chicken soup had more palm oil then chicken! Potato Starch, Maltodextrin, Dried Glucose Syrup, Flavourings (contain Milk), Palm Oil, Dried Chicken (2%), Onion Powder, Milk Proteins, Thickener (Guar Gum), Stabilisers (Dipotassium Phosphate, Trisodium Citrate), Salt, Chicken Powder, Dried Chives, Ground Black Pepper If I knew it was palm oil soup I would not have bought it! And what on earth is Maltodextrin? So, when I head back to tesco I will be complaining and hopefully be getting a £5 gift card. If I complain loudly enough, they may make it £10!

don't say in public that you love to complain about things that are not right . 'cause masses of people will come to your home tomorrow to make complaints. Do you know that in europe more than 60% of the complaints are not made beacuse most people hesitate to go against huge companies. So you are a different person if my teacher said true statistics today in the class.

To be honest, if I were Tesco I wouldn't pay you for a complaint like this. Packet soup always tastes rubbish and the ingredients were clearly listed on the pack. This one's a case of 'caveat emptor'.

I do not buy anything containing Pal Oil, this is a dangerous oil and it even tastes disgusting.

@destry OMG, I made the same mistake with a bag of bread for toasts, they were horrible, not even the birds want the crumbles.

I do try to avoid it, but I was in a rush and did not read the label until it was too late!

@LadyDuck I do normally try to make everything myself from the basic components - chicken soup to me is made of chicken, veggies, herbs and water - so it was a bit of a shock to see the list of things that I can't even pronounce! Dipotassium Phosphate really? That really belongs in a soup!

I wonder why that had to put that into soup! Very strange.

Maltodextrin is a hydrolysed starch and will be there to thicken the soup. It's nothing to worry about.
