I need to start walking for my health. I have some issues that will be immediately benefited if I will just do this simple thing.
It is about a mile to walk downtown and then back. I wandered a bit, but was able to complete the walk, hills and all.
I did stop and sit on a bench at a park. It helped that I had an errand to do, because I walk better if I have a purpose. I may walk again this afternoon.
I found the horseshoe pits. Hubby will be happy. Do you walk much?

I really need to walk for my health also but I have so much trouble with my knees that it's nearly impossible. I find myself in a catch 22

If I go early enough in the day my knees are okay. I did find a place to sit for a minute. All I have to do is walk in a store though and I am in pain. I think the concrete under the floor makes my knees hurt. I do have to be careful with the uneven surfaces here in my new town.

@GardenGerty I don't know what's wrong with your knees.... but last year my knees where giving me pain and discomfort, and I thought it was rheumatism or arthritis or something like that...but it turned out to be my muscles and tendons had gone slack... so I use some wrist or ankle weights to tone them up.... and my knees are sssoooo much better....

Getting started is the hardest part. When I look at my readings on my glucometer though, it helps. It also helps me eat at home.

walkin' 's prolly the best anybody can do 's it effects not only the body, but the mind's well. i used to walk several miles a day. these days, e'en if'n i've gotta use the walker, i get in's much's i can. there's that sage statement 'f 'use it, or lose it' that sticks firmly in my mind.

I have three days in a row now. Lots of hills in my area, so I know it is a workout.

Are your bones really brittle? I like that I go past some parks where I can sit on benches.

It sounds so nice where you are.
I hope you can keep walking while the weather allows it GG.

I am going to have to get some warm boots for later. I may be able to make room for a treadmill.

I love to walk.... in the town ..the countryside ..anywhere really, and it's a really good, cheap form of exercise that doesn't mean going to the gym.... and tbe benefits from a health and fitness point of view are soon evident.... I hope you manage to keep it up....

The more you walk the easier it gets and soon you will be walking 2 , 3 miles easily. Walking is my main form of exercise and having a dog to take for a daily walk sure helps motivate me

I have often thought of volunteering to walk dogs for other people. I do not want to own one. Princess would object.

I used to really enjoy walking, 30 years ago. I would walk with my little ones every night after dinner, with a friend and her child. When the kids were at school, I really liked speed walking. Through the years, that dwindled down and I started developing a knee problem and could not walk like I used to.
I had a total knee replacement last year and am walking a lot again, especially since I have a dog now and she demands it!

@GardenGerty It really did! I could not use stairs for years. But somehow I think that when I stopped walking, that affected my knee, so a sedentary lifestyle, you know what they say. I am so grateful for the gift of walking now! I will never take it for granted. My recovery took a bit longer than most, my insurance company was not too generous in the PT visits, so I did most exercises on my own.

Now that we live out of town I find I barely walk the pups anymore. Easier to just let them run on the property. I do walk around the place some, getting chores done like feeding our little donkey. That's walking, too. Your part of the world sounds charming.
