No matter how educated, talented, rich you are, how you treat others ultimately tells us how you actually are.

Hello everyone!
We come across many people in our life. Some of them tell us that they are very educated, talented and rich. However, we only come to know about real them, the way they treat us. If they give us due respect and treat us nicely, we tend to see them at higher pedestal and come to a conclusion that they have been imparted meaningful education and manners. If they don’t treat us well, we feel - what is the use of their education and talent if they don’t know how to behave decently with us.
Do you treat others nicely, irrespective of their status in society?

I don't agree with this. People tend to be nice with others when they wish to gain something. This is true almost 60 percent cases. I would not place anybody on pedestal for sure simply because he spoke well. At times, those who do not speak well are the ones who are kinder and more reliable ones.

Is that why I never get what I want, because they want me to be NICE to them in order to get it?!

@vandana7 So I should go to the 40% that will allow me to be my mean self and still give me what I want? How will I find them, though?

@jaboUK - Yes, you are very right that one's financial or social status should not come in way of decent behavior.

I may not "like" everybody, nor agree with them. But I treat them with respect and expect the same.

So true that if one is rich or has lots of wealth, there is no guarantee that s/he would be nice in his/her behavior too.

@dpk262006 Yes seriously, I have witnessed this many times. Some with money have absolutely no compassion and all ego about themselves and their possessions.

It is very interesting to hear that you judge a person the way how he treats a waiter. You see many persons sitting in a restaurant feel that waiters are not equal to his status and many treat a waiter shabbily. Their treatment to a waiter tells about real them.

Our dear friend @boiboing has expressed similar views like you.
Yes, you are very right that to judge a person it should be observed how he treats a waiter or an assistant in a shop. If a person does not treat them with minimum due respect, he is not worth his status.

@dpk262006 Equally, I would see someone who is scared of a waiter or unwilling to send back something bad as a bit weak.

I know that you are humble and polite and you would treat others, the way they treat you. us. It is good on your part to treat others, without taking into consideration their financial or other status.

It depends on individuals themselves, I feel the way people treat fellow workers and others like waiters in a restaurant, menial workers and those who are poorer than them - shows how arrogant or compassionate they are . I feel that people are far too complex to be judged by any one action of theirs

Yes, you are right the way someone behave with waiters/servants etc. tells about a person's attitude. People may be complex but if they are pretending that they are behaving decently, they cannot do it for a long time. What they really are will come out from their behavior sooner or later.

I try to treat others as I would like them to treat me. Of course, this does not always work, but I find that if you are nice and pleasant with most people, then they will be the same way back to you.

Yes, you are right that you cannot treat everyone equally but you could be nice with people who come across you in your day to day life, provided they are also behaving decently.

@AbbyGreenhill - therefore, I said that the other person should also behave nicely with you. If he is behaving oddly, then you have every right to go to other direction.

The average person doesn't talk about ther weatth, education and brag a lot. Those that do end up with followers that want something, like money not friends. I feel sorry for people so insecure in their life they feel they need to brag and make themselves better than others.

Yes, you are very right that an average person does not boost or brag about his education or special skills or money. Those who have habit of boosting are always obsessed with a kind of narcissism and they are perhaps feel little insecure inside, therefore, they keep telling others about their wealth.

@dpk262006 What do you mean "you believe in bragging"? I didn't think I was bragging, just saying I don't like it when people see themselves as better than others. That's only an image they have of themselves and doesn't reflect the truth of who we are as human beings.

I do not care how much money a person has, or how educated they are, if they are rude or cruel to me or someone else, I have no respect for them and will ignore them. If someone does not have a lot, but they are kind and well mannered, then I have respect for them and will treat them with respect.

Yes, you are very right that a person's wealth and education has no meaning if he does not behave nicely, these kinds of people do not deserve respect.
If one is well mannered and treats us with respect, naturally, we treat him in the same manner.
