Knowledge is NOT POWER!

Most often than sometimes, I hear people say that knowledge is power. With knowledge, you can do great things. Such mindset is total baloney. I don't judge people who say that and I respect what they believe but we actually need to change how we think about knowledge as a power.
Suppose I give you a treasure map with vast riches at the final destination. You have the resources, you have the knowledge that you need in order to get the things that you may use in order to traverse the perilous paths ahead and get to the treasure and be rich. But, if you do nothing about it when I give you the map, then it is pointless and useless.
Such is the concept of saying that knowledge is power. It's great that you have the knowledge and it will be useful if you are going to use and apply that knowledge. So, we can say that although knowledge is important - it is not power. Application is POWER! You can know everything and anything, but if you don't apply the concept, you won't become more powerful.
From our treasure map analogy, all you have is the knowledge about where the vast riches are. But you have to stand up and motivate yourself to follow the map and acquire those riches. Knowledge is just a means to application. If you don't use the knowledge that you gain, you're just taking up valuable space in your brain, so you'd better off forgetting it.
Any thoughts? Kudos~

You have a good point, and that is one of the fails I often see with pat answers about situations. Statements are given, but lack definition...sometimes the truth is people who succede at something lacked a lot of knowledge, and yet by movement achieved more even though they had mistakes. Of course, the two work together...but just look at all the bad singers who made it famous...or bad anything that made something work...it's actually somewhat common;)

Motivation truly is where the power lies.

You make some good points here. . .Knowledge then only equals power if a person uses their knowledge.

Yes, knowledge is very important but will be useless without application. So with every knowledge we acquire, we should apply or use it to its fullest extent. Kudos~

Well, you may be right that knowledge is not power in many instances. . With regard to that treasure in the map . . if I know that the risk may end my precious life, I give the map to others and just wait for them to find the treasure and give me whatever they think I would be entitled to have.

I think that would be considered to be application already. Since with the knowledge of the treasure map, you chose to take action by giving it to somebody. And that taking action in itself is actually application. By giving it to somebody, you share the knowledge to them and don't use it yourself so that they can apply the knowledge to find that treasure.
Anyway, I think the best approach to use with the knowledge of the treasure map is to indeed share the knowledge but also apply the knowledge like forming a treasure hunting team so that you can all help each other, and share in the vast riches of the treasure. He he. Kudos~

I think the original meaning of this phrase is about knowing a secret about someone so you have a power over him and can control him. I hate when people do it.

Well, with just knowledge alone, nothing could happen. If you know where a treasure but will not exert effort to find it (application), the the knowledge of knowing about the treasure will be useless to the person. Kudos~ Thanks for your opinion.
