Time to Plant the Strawberries and Tomatoes

If I could have no other summer fruit, I'd have strawberries. And fresh from the garden they're even better!

@rahulvsmokiee maybe you could find somewhere nearby that sells the plants and then grow a plant for yourself? Tomatoes are pretty good too.

@valmnz I have had more tomatoes this year than I needed. I end up eating tomatoes everyday.. LOL

Wouldn't it be great if you could just zap them through the atmosphere to me.

@sofssu I love tomatoes but I would become sick if I ate them every day.

Can you believe I came home without the lettuce plants! They and the beans will have to wait till next week.

@valmnzThat's quite a lot. Lucky you get seedlings. Here we have to start from sowing seeds.

@allknowing gets a bit costly from the garden city for the initial outlay, but saves money over the season.

We've been growing some of our own food our entire married life. It's just flower gardening I'm not much good at in the small space we have here we still manage, tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, a few potatoes, passionfruit, grapes, lemon tree, strawberries and a variety of herbs. I forgot to get the seed potatoes and the lettuce yesterday. We're also going to plant a capsicum this year and I need a new rhubarb plant. We also grow silverbeet, which is a bit like spinach.

Our tomatoes continued for a long time last year too Anna. Probably because we got them in late last year.

@valmnz The temperature is still warm, we have 18 C during the day, that it's pretty good.

@softbabe44 here in New Zealand, Spring, once the temperatures get consistently up to between 15 and 20C. That's now for us, October and November

@valmnz How and what time of the year to plant strawberries and tomatoes.

It is exciting to watch the plants grow and than go and pick the fruits.

@valmnz They really do seem to taste better than if you had bought them at the store.

They're both so easy and as we don't have much garden space they make economical use of the space. We actually grow the strawberries in a pot.

Ours lasted right up till May last summer, which was quite unusual.

They both usually do pretty well here, so I hope this summer is no different.

Sorry, no, just a very small garden with a few basics - not much room.
