how to make dogs and cats become friends?

the fact that dogs and cats can't stand each other is well known. but the question is can they really be friends? because for a owner of both species coming home and finding the house devastated or realizing that the dog just ate/harmed the cat isn't nice so do you have any ideas?

We have had those great moments when our cats got along well with our dogs. Our Bull Terrier in particular just loved the cat and they were the best of friends. She even wanted him around when she got her kittens. He would pick them up and lick too. There are many more stories about them. All our dogs and cats have been friendly. You just have to let them be and they will make friends on their own.

@swissheart All my dogs over the years have got along well. At this moment we have no cats but we have had strays. Now Preiti is missing the strays and each time she spots one she will run to make friends.

I used to have a temperamental dog that we owned for years before getting a cat. He didn't like the cat at first and insisted on barking at it, but within time, the dog got used to three cats and would even sleep on the floor with them. Dogs and cats can get used to each other, but not all dogs and cats are the same.

I guess it's also important the atitude of the owner so that they wouldn't feel jealous at each other

Plenty of cats and dogs are friends. Just look at the pictures online or evidence. I used to have a dog and cat that lived together and although they had their "squabbles" they tolerated each other well over time. The dog has passed on, and I think the cat misses him.

@swissheart,I have read about our old Hindu sages. It is said that their presence could bring an end to all hostilities.I think,if you are good, you may inspire others to co-exist with those who are their sworn enemies. It's the aura of goodness.
