How to grab my attention, mylot style

Let me tell you a secret, people notice avatars. I know it seems silly, but we do. I am more apt to stop and read something from someone I don't know, if they have taken the time to create an avatar on here, rather than use the free plain provided one. Oh I might read that second example anyways, but I tend to avoid those people. Perhaps it is silly, but I see it as you putting effort into it. If you put effort into that, you may hang around, you may put more effort into writing, and discussing, and you may be worth more to mylot as a whole. So if you want more to interact, take a moment, and get a good avatar. Take time and consider it, maybe of us know our friends avatars, we recognize and watch for them, we learn them, so once you have it, you may be stuck with it! lol

But if your principle applies, does it mean that avatar needs to be changed often?

no, I would suggest NOT changing it. Get a good one and stick with it. Because I watch for people, like @Berniezeitler. I see his avatar and I know the post is his, before I even read the name, I watch for people I follow, and knowing their online "face" helps me find them faster. Also for people we don't know, it draws more attention, having an actual avatar. It's like that old saying to not judge a book by it's cover. Let's be honest, at first glance many people totally do. An avatar gives a chance to catch their attention, a good post or comment holds that attention.

I have used the photo of Abby and I so long I can't change it...I would miss seeing her face...since I can't see it for real.

Yeah, at this point I am used to my avatar, I use it to see where I have already commented, I change that and it would take me longer since I wouldn't recognize myself. And let's be honest, I am lazy.

I agree, the plain one the site provides is boring. I keep the same one wherever I go, and I think it helped me when I first joined here. A lot of my bubbling buddies recognised me, and I them (if they had kept the same one too).

I don't usually pay any attention to aviators but maybe I should start. I look for discussions about pets or something unusual or hasn't been mentioned before.

I use the same photo on matter what website I sign up too, I also use the sae name kevin1877uk, that way people will know me straight away. I know when I was on Bubblews some people kept changing there Avatar's which I though was silly people won't recognize you.

It is true. During 1 or 2 years I did not had an avatar here. Then a friend explained me that I "needed an avatar to have a personality at myLot". I chose a black and white one to be identified easily.

that is deff one of the reasons, it becomes your "face" as it were. It also helps make you stand out from the crowd, people recognize you faster, identify it with you, plus it adds the whole, I care enough to do this vibe, which shows you put effort into things

You have a good point, I like to change up my avatar depending on which picture I find in my vault of shots. I have a lot of furbaby shots that I like to use as avatars.

Didn't think of that @Jessicalynnt but there's no more Gather where I could post my shots of my furbabies without changing my avatar. I wish I could find a shutterbug site that's like mylots, boy would I have fun.

I am in absolute agreement with you on this. There is no need to upload a specifically good avatar, but the default green man does give the impression that the member is not here to stay.

@Jessicalynnt There are many members using animated avatars. However, an avatar would have to be within 60 pixels square in order to appear animated on Mylot. If you use a larger one it will animate on your profile but appear as a static image on a discussion. All you need to do is find an animated gif and resize it before uploading.

@Asylum very neat, I won't, mainly because mine has a following of sorts, and it's too late to change it now, but I think it's super cool that it can be done, and can be done that easily!

Some of the avatars here are really eye-catching and partially tells about that person's personality, likes, dislikes and charm. I look out for them from the back of my mind. Avatars are a person's caller id, if you will!
