I love horror films but I'm probably quite strange in the fact I find them either hilarious or predictable and dull.
I saw my first horror film at a sleep over at my cousins when I was 7 he woke me up in the middle of the night and said I had to watch this amazing film. So we sat and watched poltergeist I laughed my way through it. Admittedly most of that laughter was nerves as I knew my Aunt wold go ballistic about us watching it meanwhile my cousin got increasingly angry with me for not being as scared as he was.
but It does make me wonder do horror films actually have there intended effect anymore. so do horror films scare you? What is it about them that has you scared to sleep afterwards?

Most of them amuse me, but I haven't seen a lot of horror movies. I like some of hitchcock films. The only horror movie that I really can't watch for more than 5 minutes is "The saw". It's a sick movie series

i don't count films films like saw i think gore fests need a genre all of there own tbh. I watched the first one and loved the twist at the end which is what made the film. the rest of them just tried to our gore the last one. nothing entertaining about them at all

NO. These films are so predictable that Geico has a commercial that spoofs them ("why can't we just get in the running car and leave?" "No, let's hide behind the chain saws!"). The Birds, however, scared the daylights out of me...because Hitchcock knew how to make a scary movie (usually with little or no blood). He was called "the master of suspense" for a reason.

I couldn't agree with you more although my fave Hitchcock film has to be the lady vanishes. It's not scary but it is a masterpiece. the only film that actually scared me was the Japanese version of The Ring 2, I couldn't look at a mirror for the best part of a week after that one.

I agree with you that most horror films are quite predictable and so they will not scare me. I have seen very few horror films in my life who have the right sort of suspense and horror to scare me. I remember Rosemary´s Baby as one of them. I also like Vertigo very much although that one has more suspense than horror.

I hate horror films, and try not to watch any. I tend to have nightmares about the horror movie I seen.

It depends in a story. Horror movie is my love since I was a child. Zombies don't scare me because I don't believe that they exist.
