Books Then Movies (Which Order Are You)

I'm finally catching up on The Game of Thrones series. *SPOILER ALERT* It's in the moments where John Snow is in the north and fighting the Night Walkers. They made this fight scene so amazing! It makes me want to read the books, but unfortunately, I have this philosophy that I read books before movies.. not the other way around. It's hard for me to imagine characters when I have already seen them on the screen. I like to imagine them without preconceived notions of what they will look like.

I really don't like watching the movies after I've read the books. For two reasons. The first one is after reading the book, I know where the story goes. And the second reason, I'm sitting there trying to figure out what they change on screen versus in the book. And if there's something I think is vital which has been cut and changed, it really bugs me. If it's a book I've never ready, the on screen adaptation is something worth checking out. And I'm sure if it's worthwhile on screen, I might check out the book after the on screen version. The other way around never works out well for me at all.

Same here. I didn't like the fact that The Hunger Games adjusted the story line with the Mockingjay pin. It drove me bonkers.

I usually read the books first. but with game of thrones I made the decision to watch the series first as I'll always see the changes made to the story and get annoyed when bits I love are left out of the film/series. It was the best decision i think as I have enjoyed the series so much more than i would have and watching the show first hasn't spoiled the books ive read so far as I see it as adding to rather than losing bits.

I can understand your point of view. However, I do have a pretty long list of books that I need to tackle. I think that reading a book after a movie kind of is counterproductive at this point. Ha ha ha.

I prefer to read the book first. But I don't have time to read all of the books that lead to the movies I see these days. My Auntie and I saw Unbroken at the theater earlier this year. We were both disappointed by the movie, but she had read the book and said it was excellent. I had not. Having read the book made the movie slightly more tolerable for her.

Books first always. I missed out on first two movies in harry potter and same for season 1 of GOT. But then all three were very good adaptations of the books. Luckily I caught up and finished the books for the rest of the series in HP and GOT. And I hate the fact that they twist the plot so much just to fit it in the time frame and budget. Sadly the GOT series has caught up with the books. GRR Martin needs to hurry :)

I completely agree. I wasn't aware about the fact that they had caught up with the books! Guess it's going to be a long time before season 6 is made.

@Kazemononoke sadly they know the plot and they are planning to stick to schedule. You might see the show finish first

I much prefer to read the book, the movie is always deceiving.
