Almost fell early this morning

November 1, 2015 11:54am CST
I let the dog out, and waited for her to get done, and let her back in. I was headed back to bed, when all of a sudden, I started losing my balance, and I don't know why. I ended up grabbing onto the wall, and a shelf in my living room, and was able to keep from falling. It just hit me all of a sudden. Very strange, as that has never happened before. It didn't last long though, as when it was time to get up to greet the day, I never had it again. It was very scary, I tell you. I am just glad that I was able to hold myself up, and not fall, as I know if I fell it would have been hard to get up. My ex was here at the time, so he could have helped, but then he is older than I am, and I wouldn't want him to fall trying to get me up. I am much better now though, and I hope that it stays that way.

If you turned too fast or had like a head rush, you might have done something too fast which created that feeling..if i'm sitting down i usually get up slower than normal to avoid that....if i turn my head fast..i get a little dizzy..it is common

@Rosekitty Yea, I am getting older by the minute. I hate getting old, but it happens to all of us, sooner or later. I will just have to slow down like you said, as I don't want to fall. I think what it was, I was trying to get back to bed, and I was going to fast.

That is totally possible. It just happened so fast, that before i know it, was almost on the floor, trying to stay up. It really did scare me too, and the funny thing, it has never happened like that before, and I hope it doesn't ever happen again.

I don't start all that many as I usually can't think of anything to talk about, but since I almost fell, I thought I would post about it. I hope that it never happens to me again either.

Blood pressure problem? Or is it something to do with your ears. May be you need to visit ENT specialist.

It hasn't happened since, so I am not sure what it was. I just think that I was turning the corner to fast, and lost my footing, and stared to fall. I was wanting to get back to bed so I just was going to fast, I think. I might have to get to get myself checked out like you said.

@vandana7 I don't get ringing in the ears. Thank goodness for that. I can hear really well. I will eventually get myself checked out eventually though.

@rosekiss ..have you felt your ear ringing..ever? You could get yourself checked with the help of one of your ex right at home you know. If you have a small heavy instrument like a small hammer, sit down on a chair, ask you ex to tap gently on your knee bone, see if you can feel it in ear. If you feel something you would be better off consulting ENT specialist. The procedure is simple..may be small ear infection. Nothing to fear. Do close your eyes during this simple test.

@TexanTornado I am glad too, as it could have been really bad, as when I fell the last time, I hurt my tail bone, and took months to heal, and now it is in my lower back. Some days it hurts more than others.

Yes, I am okay. I think I just took the corner fromthe kitchen tothe hall to fast, and I started to go down, but was able to keep myself from falling on the floor. When I get down, I just can't get up. My ex was here at the time though, and he could have helped me, but I am glad he didn't have to.

I do intend to do that for sure. i do think that is why it happend though, as i just went around the corner to fast instead of taking it slower. I do take it slow now though, as I am not going to let that happen again, if I can help it.

@valmnz Yes, we certainly do. I am getting older, and can lose my balance much easier, and so I have to take my time walking that I don't trip and fall.

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. If it continues, you might need to see a doctor to make sure your health is okay. I am clumsy and have a tendency to fall if I'm distracted when doing something.

@simone10 Oh yes, they do hurt a lot. When I twist my ankle, I do a good job, because I can't walk on it afterward, and it really swells up big. My foot looks like a bowling ball wearing a sock.

My problem is i have weak ankles, so it doesn't take much for me to go down just like that should I turn my ankles the wrong way. Believe me, i have had a lot of sprained ankles, and they hurt really bad.

Glad to hear your feeling better. I know that feeling and it is scary. When the dr. changed my blood pressure meds I was getting light headed and dizzy. It is a horrible feeling and scary to feel like your going to fall.

It certainly is, and my problem is, I can't get up to well by myself, so that is why I decided to grab onto the wall, to break my fall. It worked that time, as I might have really got hurt that time.

Yes I am, and I am fortunate that I didn't fall, as it could have been really bad if I had My ex was here at the time, but if I had fallen, I am not sure he would have had the strength to help me up, as he is older, but then again, he might have. Anyway, when I felt myself teetering, I put my hand on the wall to break my fall.

When I fall, I can't get up, not to mention, when I fall, I might hurt myself. I did fall one time outside though, while walking the dogs, but that time, when I fell sideways, I landed in the grass, and didn't hurt myself, and I got myself up and kept going. I was glad that I didn't hurt myself at that time. I don't want to have to get a walker, but it if it keeps happening, I just might have to.

@rosekiss It's really a very good thing that you landed on the grass when you fell . Maybe you shouldn't be the one walking the dog anymore to avoid a fall like that again . Yes, a walker might be very useful to you to avoid a fall.

Did you have your Blood Pressure checked?Or are you taking any medications?I think you should not ignore this.Or may be it is some middle ear infection. It makes us lose our balance.

@silvermist Yes, I think you are right, as it is very important. I seem to be okay now though, and I really haven't had any problems with my blood pressure, not that I know of anyway. It has always been normal, but beings I am older, it may have changed.

No, I haven't checked my blood pressure in a very long time, and I am not on any medications at all. It could have been my ear doing it I suppose, but it just came on so fast, I just didn't know what was happening, until I started teetering, and grabbed the wall to break my fall. I am so glad I thought that far ahead too.

It certainly was. I was just walking normal too, and the fact it was dark in the house didn't matter, as I know my way around, but I don't know why my one foot just started going out from under me. I am certainly glad that I was able to catch my balance, as I was afraid if I fell, I would really get hurt.

That is not good, best get that checked out. Might be the change in weather conditions as hot and cold can do that sometimes...or could be due to blood pressure. I get it too.

I usually don't have problems with my blood pressure, but you are right, that it might be that too. Now that I have insurance, I will have to get it checked out, and see. I don't like going to the doctor, but sometimes it is necessary.

@gudheart I need to get checked out for my back anyway. It is so painful most days, and it is in my lower back. that happened when I fell almost 4 years ago. I landed on my tailbone, and when that healed, it went into my back, and have been there ever since.

@gabs8513 I am certainly going to take things slow, as i don't want to fall and hurt myself. I fell last spring, and it has affected my back since I fell, so I will certainly try to keep it from happening again. I just can't pick myself up, when I fall, unless i grab onto something to help me get up, so I have learned to take things a little slower.

Thank you so much. i pray for the same ting. I havel learned that I need to take my time going around the corner, so it doesn't happen again. I hate to think what might have happened if I had fallen. I am sure it woun't have been pretty, and I could have really hurt myself. I am thankful to the Lord eveyday, that I didn't fall.

That's happened to me before, but sometimes I'm in the bathroom. Once I thought I might fall into the tub. Luckily we have several handicap bars in there from the previous owners, so I made sure to grab one to stay upright. What I hate is when I trip on a rug or something, for then I will almost fly and have to quickly catch myself. Thankfully, neither of those happen very often.

I do have one rug down my chair, but it stays put and doesn't move, so I don't have to worry about me tripping over it, and I go flying. Before i had rugs that stayed put, I would trip over them and fall. That is why I have a rug that stays put, so when I get up off my chair, I don't trip on it.

It was in the middle of the night, as I was letting my pom outside to go potty, and when she came back in, I was heading back to bed, and I think I took the corner to fast, as I started to fall, but was able to catch myself. I just need to take the corner a littlle slower from now on.
