Should you eat when you are sick? I say, yes, you need to get those nutrients in.
With my recent illness, I went on the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.
And chicken soup is always a cure all! And don't forget water!
The time will inevitably come when your immune system fails at its ONE JOB, and you'll get sick. Out come the pillows and Netflix, but as you ride out the illness, you also need to eat. You may know that trying to kill those germs with alcohol isn't the sm

I had severe vomiting and nausea and was hospitalized for a week in June with severe dehydration. I lost 41 lbs. Then I got sick again a couple of weeks ago. They did not admit me but did hydrate me. I lost 30 lbs that week. It was horrible, but I look sensational now! Hopefully, I can keep it off. But I do have to keep reminding myself to drink water.

@Pattitude Pills can do so much damage Patti..believe me I know..I had to reduce this bladder thingy I was on (anti depressant but works for nerve endings) as it was making me have bad side effects.
I wish you continued health Patti and I am sorry to read of the loss of your son...wow a lot on your plate. How old was he?

The BRAT diet is actually for someone who is very sick. Food for them to eat until they can eat regular foods again.

The BRAT diet is a great "reset" for your system after stomach-related illnesses. Ever since my daughters were young, they knew that, if they had been sick, the first "real food" they would get was plain white rice. Got to the point that they would ask me, "I'm feeling better Mommy... do I get my rice today?" They are in their early 20's now and still subscribe to BRAT on their own. I really do hope you're doing better now... that's a lot of weight to lose without being to confirm the reason!!

I am doing great now. I have to keep reminding myself to drink water.
I am 1/2 Japanese and white rice is a main staple in my diet!

You should have seen me when I could at last eat normal food! I was almost gluttonous!

It depends on what kind of sick you are. If you can't keep anything down would not be wise to eat anything.

This is true. The first day I fed on popsicles and jello. Anything liquid. Then I was promoted to a banana! And I had to keep taking sips of water to get it down there.

Your body needs food. Skipping food isn't good. But it all depends on how sick you 'are.

Of course you should eat something when you don't feel well. I know maybe you can't eat much since you have no appetite at that time, but this is how you can get your energy back to recover. Here usually we will have the congee or noodles as a meal when we are ill. As they are easy to digest.
