What's Going On?

Lately I have seen a lot of so called "discussions" on this site. They all seem to come from India. They turn out to be just advertising for different companies. Why do people always have to spoil everything? Fortunately we can report those and the administration here is doing an excellent job at getting rid of them pretty fast.

Unfortunately, spam is a perennial problem for all sites like this. There are certain measures to filter and deter some of it but it will never go away entirely. Please just report it and be confident that the post and/or the user posting it will be dealt with very quickly (usually within an hour). If you see a series of posts by the same user, it is usually only necessary to report one of them because Admin will check the profile and deal with it accordingly.

Unfortunately, they figure even a little exposure here until they are removed is worth their time. I think it would be more worth their time to legitimately participate.

@GardenGerty God forbid that they should ever have to think for themselves, let alone write reasonable English! I suspect that each post may be worth a few cents to them (and not from MyLot, of course), regardless of whether its deleted or not. They just have to know how to sign up and copy and paste a piece of text. In less than 30 minutes, they can probably earn $5 doing this - and they don't even have to know any English.

There are always those who do not want to follow the rule and want to ruin it for everyone else.

It's unfortunately inevitable. However many filters and other methods are devised, spammers will never go away. Just report anything you see (especially in responses and comments) and it will be dealt with within, at most, 24 hours and usually much sooner.

I think you will have that no matter where you go. We just have to do our part and report this when we see it.

We had the same thing happening on another site I belong to and half the time they write in their native tongue which is not allowed but they are booted out almost immediately after reporting them.

@simone10 Just the other day when I went into the new section someone had written in another language and I reported them. How can you respond to something if you can't understand it.

@Marcyaz So far I haven't run across different languages yet. That is a sure way to get deleted.

This can be difficult to deal with effectively because many just create new accounts and repost the same garbage.

@Marcyaz Their IP address is always a good way to block banned members from rejoining, but seems to be something that most sites are reluctant to do.

@Asylum I would say if that is the way to catch them then do it. I do know a number of sites that have done that in the past and have even banned certain countries.

Then the admin should be able to catch them by their ISP which will show up if they have the software in place for that.

That was allowed until the site started paying again. Perhaps these folks didn't get the message. Probably though they are just spammers, a plague that you find on all pay sites.

You have a point there. It was indeed allowed, which was also the reason I steered clear.

Any idea how many Indians are involved in this? It hurts when Indians are generalised here. I am from India and a very respectable member here.

@allknowing oh no, I don't think this post is generalising .. it just happens that some people from India are doing it .. and some from Hong Kong . It's just the fact, some people from the Philippines did mess up things too ( on other site ) for others who are doing the right thing ..

I looked for the report button as I was reading this--found it. I hope we're not swamped with SPAM like "that other site" was. I actually hadn't noticed that much here.
