I don't cook often enough

Subtitle : It's a good night to cook. I picked up some baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and potatoes before I clocked in last night. I wasn't sure what kind of meat I wanted to make so decided during the night and purchased cube steak this morning. I love Mac with Baked Beans so that's my little treat for myself. The potatoes will be something we all enjoy. I'll also pop open a can of biscuits, and I am sure I'll be asked to make a gravy to go with the cube steak and biscuits. I'm not much for gravy with my cubesteak but I'm a Southern girl so I love some biscuits and gravy. What kind of weather is your area expecting at dinner time? Is this a cooking night or do you tend to eat out on Monday's?

It depends on what is going on. Tonight one of mine will have basketball practice, so I need something quick. Tomorrow 2 have their last band night to clean up, another quick night. Wednesday more basketball. Thursday nothing is going on but I'm working late... then Friday I shop. I don't think I bought enough quick stuff to get through the week...

My sister (Who has two kids, one a preteen) has a freezer in her garage for the quick foods. She does tae kwon do with the pre teen twice a week so those type meals come in handy for her family. No kids here, but I'm the only one who is able to / will cook so it all depends on me and whether or not I work. I don't cook on nights I work because I like to stay off my feet and relaxed before I have to go in. Two more months and the first half of school for the kids will be through. It's hard to believe how fast the year has gone by!

@ScribbledAdNauseum I had my daughter make dinner tonight.. she can do things that aren't too complicated. Tonight she made hamburger helper. I also have a big freezer and keep some microwavable things available for nights I can't/don't want to cook.

You are making me hungry. We are getting back into cooking more. It is the dishes that slow me down.

doing the dishes? I rinse and pop them in the dishwasher as I go to make it easier. Albeit the pots and pans sometimes need to "soak" a bit more than usual.

No, we don't eat out on Monday's. I always prefer to cook for my family. We enjoy eating home cooked dishes more.

Home cooked dishes are better for you as well. It's doing the dishes and other clean up afterwards that is annoying! :)

For me, all days are cooking days. I don´t like to eat out fast food and I don´t have the money to go to a good restaurant. Even today, I came home from the doctor to make a late lunch at 4 PM. Leticia took some sandwichs and I treated us to a capucchino

@ScribbledAdNauseum Fortunatly I have learned to make my own fast food using my pressure cooker and my freezer to have on hand already made meals.

I remember you telling me that before. It's definitely better to always eat at home. We don't know what kind of shortcuts restarurants and fast food places make to get the food to us quicker.

I don't know how to cook very many things. I enjoy trying and learning something new to cook. I have not in awhile though. I think it is one of my passions that I want to learn more of soon. Your dinner sounds good.

I was always in the kitchen when I was little. It helped me a great deal to learn how to do some things. I'm still not the best with some things, chicken being one of them. I can cook Barbecue chicken, I can marinate chicken, but I can't do anything too fancy with it. Pork is another thing, but that's more of me being nervous that I will mess it up. There are plenty of sites with recipes and the such for inspiration, they can help you with learning new and interesting recipes. If you like zucchini you can cut it in half, brush it with garlic butter, a little parmesean, and seasoning salt then put it in the oven on broil for a few minutes until done. My favorite "fancy" yet simple side dish to make.

No? I figured it would be the most popular night to eat out. Mondays being the first day of the work week for so many.

I don't cook often enough either. I pick up a roast chicken, deboned chicken, or some other food and go from there.

I love the deli selections! Juicy & tender chicken coupled with deli macaroni salad, or cole slaw, and potatoes.

I do love baked beans and potatoes. Mac and cheese isn't something I enjoy if it is the one out of the box. I remember my grandma's deep dish mack and cheddar cheese. It was so delicious. She made everythng from scratch.

I am not good with making the mac and cheese from scratch. I think my problem is letting the flour cook enough. There was once that I made a very succesful copy cat of a restaurants mac and cheese. I tend to add cheese, slightly more butter, or milk to the boxed stuff to make it creamier.

I live in the middle of NC and it has been raining all day long! We had Italian Herb chicken, stuffing, long grain wild rice, green bean casserole, gravy and cranberry sauce. It was so good. Almost everything is gone. No more chicken, cranberry sauce or stuffing is left. Just a bit of rice and gravy left.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I live in a small town called Lillington. I am between Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg and Raleigh. I am around 30 or 40 minutes from Raleigh. The green bean casserole really hit the spot. I love it too and it was so good. I like to make mine with the extra fried onions.

@Shellyann36 I've never heard of that town. You can see that I'm in W-S. They have different flavors of fried onion now, I don't remember the other flavor off hand though. I'm talking about the French's brand.

@skysnap Oats and whole grains are supposed to be very very healthy for you. Now there is more talk of different types of seeds that can offer immense benefits to digestion, detox, and antioxidants.

I don't like cooking on days that I have to work, and I work a lot this time of year. I've seen a lot of supposedly easy recipes for things on facebook lately. I've been tempted to try a few on days I have off.

I always cook at home. Eating out gets too pricey. I haven't decided on tonight's dinner yet.

You are right about it being too pricey. Some of my favorite restaurants (to eat in) have gone up in price so much that I hardly ever treat myself to them anymore.

Mondays are generally the last day I would want to eat outside, home food works well.

I thought Mondays would be the day to eat out because it's the beginning of the work week for so many. I suppose it can also be said that people just want to stay home after the first day of work for the week.

Sounds like you are going to have a great meal. Cube steak is always good as there are so many ways you can fix them. They go good with so many things. Enjoy

I just realized that (for me anyway) it's just a lot cheaper to buy a meal from a restaurant, not fast food, I mean like Denny's or Big Boy or Ruby Tuesday's....I did the math, and it costs me more to buy ingredients to make something rather than just buy it fully-prepared and ready to go. Plus, I've been extra lazy lately, so this works out perfect(ly). But cooking at home is good too, and if you make a huge casserole or something, it can last almost a week. I just don't have the energy for it right now. But the 2 healthiest ways to eat are 1.) Cooking a meal. 2.) Buying a meal from a nice restaurant. Worst foods are the 2 "F's"... Fast food and Frozen food. That's what Dr. Chopra says.

I don't do baked beans with cubesteak very often. Usually I have potatoes and peas with it. I add mustard, barbecue sace and a litlte bit of cinnamon to my baked beans.
