Is Like the New Trend on MyLot?

It seems to me that “like” is the newest trend here on MyLot these past few days. Yesterday I received around 250 notifications but after closing all the “Likes” I was left with only 102 comments. It seems each day I receive more and more likes and less actual comments. I’m not sure why a few people feel they need to open all the post and on each comment press the like button. I saw a few people who have come to some of my posts and others I have commented on and just liked every single comment on the post. Has anyone else noticed this lately? I am sure I’m not the only person to start seeing more and more likes in my notification than comments. Seems a little strange that a person goes to posts and only likes all the comment on the post. What do you think? Image source * personal image

I not infrequently visit a discussion, think that it's a good discussion topic and well presented and 'like' it, even though I don't feel that I have anything to add to the discussion. I may do the same with some of the responses and comments, even though I don't have anything I feel would be useful to add. It's simply my way of saying "Well, done!" or "Good point!" or just "I found this entertaining." It's not (neccessarily) that I can't spend the time and effort to respond or comment, it's merely that I feel I have nothing to say that may not already have been said by someone else. By 'liking', it shows (I hope) that I have, after all, taken the time to read the post! In a group conversation or discussion, it may not actually be necessary to say anything yet, nevertheless, our presence and agreement is often welcomed.

@Susan2015 LIKE many people we don't have much to add so we like their work so they know we were there. MY point here is this. Do you find 1 or 2 people opening your post and hitting LIKE on each and every comment on your post? This is my point.

OWL I do the same. My point in this discussion is as follows. I had a few new people who came from different sites that they earned money when they liked a post or comments. Now on here they feel it is the same way. So they open a discussion and LIKE every single comment on the post. This is crazy and drives me insane when I see this. I know about notifications and shutting off certain features and now I have shut off LIKE because of this. I left it on before because when a person comments and you respond I wanted to know if they read it or not. The LIKE indicated they read my comment and liked what I had to say. I can't see anyone liking all comments on a post this is crazy to me it is LIKE spamming a post isn't it?

Actually i don't ever notice who liked my posts . That's because i customized my notifications that i will only see those who followed me , commented on my posts and responded to my comments .

I had mine on until it started to be annoying to see a few people who liked every single comment in a post. Do you go to a discussion and if you have nothing to add leave a like Yes I do this and I am sure you do too. But do you ever go to a discussion and leave 40 likes on each and every comment? No I am sure you don't. This was the meaning behind my post. I have people doing this and it makes me crazy. They are new to the site and feel like they have to like 40 times 1 post so the person know they were there.

@poehere ..I don't press like without reading. If I have time, I read. So it is definitely not 40+ likes unless the discussion is hot topic.

What add 40+ likes to their post before leaving a comment? Or did you just like their post and leave a comment? I do the same when I find a post to read I like the post and leave a comment. I leave only 1 like on the topic and I don't press like on every single comment. That is what I was talking about.

@vandana7 Now you see my point. Nobody needs to like a post that many time right in a row. It is like skimming down a page and just hitting like as you go along.

Not all people are like me and not every lotter feels as close to others as me. Reply and Comment something that is relevant to the discussion. This is what is the guideline here. Those who do not have anything relevant to say, will normally move on to the next discussion. But then, some of these people may like (appreciate) your discussion - Like, today, is used for that purpose. It only indicates that the discussion/response was appreciated. And yes, there are some people who do not interact but keep liking everything on the page. Weird, but there is nothing that can be done about that. I know a few who do this on some of my posts/responses too...

@thesids This is the way I feel. When I saw this at first I thought it was a error in the system or something wrong. Why would I have 25 to 40 likes from the same person right in a row. Then it happened again and then a 3rd time. Then all of a sudden I got a follow from my liker. He said to me I like your work, now I follow you, can you follow me too. That was what it was all about. Being noticed and drawing attention to themselves and then hitting you up to follow them. I had this happen 3 times now and I think people need to get a clue this isn't the way to go.

@poehere He said to me I like your work, now I follow you, can you follow me too. To early to judge or frame an opinion but my take is - either the person is a spammer or a newbie who is desperate to have some friends or even someone who has loved your avatar. And yes, this is not the way they should be doing things. It defeats the sole purpose of the site - the interactions.

I would like to get just one notification telling me that someone liked and commented and mentioned me in that comment instead of three separate ones. I tend to forget to like if I have something to say. And to like only if I have nothing to say - I hope you see what I mean.

That would be nice. I also would love to have a new person like my post once and not 40 times. That is insane to see that many likes from a single person on one discussion.

I sometimes 'like' a discussion, response or comment without adding my own comment if I agree with the sentiment but don't feel able to add to the discussion due to others already having expressed my opinion. I feel a comment such as 'I agree' is probably worthless in terms of adding value to a discussion.

Yes, I also noticed it, it is the new trend of our member. If we compare with the old mylot, the new mylot more pleasure. But, in the new mylot, each discussion get a few response. I don't know why, maybe numbers of active mylot member is less than old mylot. I can't ensure.

If liking comments (but not writing comments on each of those), is a violation or an unusual activity, then count me in. BUT, I don't "like" comments in posts just to go with a trend. I "like" a comment (at times, most), in posts because those are worth it. And when I read a comment worth liking & could be given my opinion, I do. Is there something wrong with what I do?

I haven't noticed that, but in my situation, I will like and comment and respond when I have something to say. I don't like unless I do respond or comment. I suppose that is strange, but that is the way I do it. I am not sure what the rules are on this, but I am not going to like something to be liking it, and leave. To me that just doesn't seem right. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this, as if I should like even though I don't respond then I will.

@rosekiss Me too. There is no need to bomb me with likes and then follow me and then send me a PM telling me they liked me and now follow me and will I do the same. Wrong way to do this and it doesn't work well with me at all. I sent them back a PM and said how wrong they are and to stop this. They said thanks they would consider it.

I read the person comment and always like their comment and then leave mine for them. I also read their post and if it is good I leave a like and comment. But to leave behind a ton of likes on one post is not correct. Why like all the comments and press the like key 100 times. Seem crazy to me on this one.

Yes I agree with you on this one. Even I have gotten lost in all of these comments and others comment on a comment a person left. I think what I was trying to get at was a few new comers have come here and I saw where they had gone to a few posts and liked each and every comment on the post. One time I had like 40 likes on one post from 1 person. Wow that was a lot. I was a little shocked on this one. I would never do this. After the 3rd time I saw this I turned off like on my account. I couldn't handle all the likes from one person. It was way to many.
