Helping your aged parents.

I think it's the duty of every son and daughter to help their parents in their old age. After all your parents worked hard their entire life to make you what you are now. Especially my parents have done a lot to me which cannot be measured. So as a part of my duty I must do something to them.

Yes, as children it is our duty to serve our parents, take care of them when they are old just like when they took care of us when we're young.

Yes I totally agree with this. Even scripture shows we are to honor our parents and Christ chided the pharisees for not providing for older parents when they said they gave "Corbin" a generous offering to the temple in lieu of care for elderly parents. I am elderly and my daughter tries to help as does one son. Another son calls and checks on us but he is far from us 400 miles but he does care. But one son ignores us and treats us as though we are of no value but helps his mother in law all the time. He is our oldest and it does hurt deeply as we helped and encouraged him in many things.

It is our responsibility and whether they have been good to us or not is not the issue the fact that they are our parents is enough. I have seen in Jamaica here many older folks homeless on the road and the first thing I think of is - where are their children? where is the family? We need to take care of them because if we do not they will become a problem to the state and society in general. If they never took care of you take care of them and let them "eat their condemnation" as we would say in Jamaica. It would heap coals of fire on their heads and will eventually apologise and ask forgiveness but please do it out of the goodness of your heart and because of love. They dont have to love you back just give them all the love in you.

i think what's sadder is when a son or daughter really wants to help their aged parents, but the parents refuse

I think parents refuse when they are in a position not to be helped by their son or daughter. But the sad thing is that when parents need help but their son or daughter do not help them

Same here, my parents prefer to do things on their own whenever they are capable. Only when they are very ill, then they will ask for my assistance.

@myfb2009 and that's what's frustrating because sometimes things can be prevented from getting worse

I agree. It's sad to see the parents who got abandoned by their children.

Yes, practicing filial piety is a good attitude. We should always help and respect our parents whenever it is possible. I always helped my parents whenever they are in need of help. Whenever they prefer freedom, i will always allowed them as well. My parents is the active type, where they prefer to do things on their own if possible.
