It's Still Searching

I was running some searches on the free genealogy website I belong to, just to see if I am related to various random people, and how I am related. I was surprised to find only 23 degrees of separation between me and Queen Elizabeth II. The relationship is not a blood one, but lots of marriages and connections through the Queen Mum's family. I found 29 degrees of separation between me and Nikola Tesla. Interestingly, the same branches of the family come up in these wild card searches. They must have got around a lot, and in some hoity-toity circles. But my mother always pondered if there might be a connection between her mother's family and one of the victims of the Salem Witch Trials. I set the relationship finder to searching about half an hour ago. It's still searching. Either the request broke it, or it's a very complicated relationship. Did you ever find a relationship between you and a random person or a famous person that surprised you?

there is a free one of those sites? We tried one once, loved it, but couldn't pay the 30 a month it wanted, thought that was way too high.

There isn't a lot of research information available on this site, it's more of a tree-maker, but I have had several responses from previously unknown cousins. There are a few free sites for building the family tree, but I have done all my research without that fee-based site.

@Rollo1 yeah the info is super nice in that fee site, but sheesh, the fees were high.

Oh I did 'The Crucible' (Salem Witch - Abigail’s and Proctor ) as my final year set work book - I have some Irish blue blood and my mom was ready to ship me off to marry Prince Charles when the Queen was getting desperate for an heir - I was about 15 at the time - ha ha ha

I am glad you didn't marry him, he's very self-absorbed.

That might be exciting, but I am sure they spent all the money.

It's hard to find records in Ireland, too. So many things were not recorded or the records lost. During the war, a lot of old records were shredded to provide paper supplies for the war effort. So, I will probably never find all the records in some areas.

@Rollo1 Even if they have recorded something, in Italy the bureaucracy will kill you. They are going to ask so many papers (possibly notarized) that you finally decide do to nothing.

No, while I'm quite interested in other peoples geneology, I enjoy that tv programme .. who do you think you are... I've never actually looked into my own.... I haven't got the patience to do the research....

I never watch that show. I want to watch "Who Do You Think Cares Who You Are?". But only because they're all famous.

My grandmother did research years ago and found we are related to an Irish king from some small place in Ireland. I always thought it was because of my royal blood that I was so tender and got sore easily until I realized it was from Fibromyalgia! Let us know what else you find out

I´m not much into genealogy. So much that I gave the book we have of the family´s genealogy from my father´s side of the family to a cousin who did not have it. But I know people that are very interested in that . One of them is my closest friend. She spends what little time she can steal, searching and she has found many interesting things.

My mother used to tell us that she was related to a particular Hollywood director and we scoffed. Turns out he was a cousin. But if you never meet these people, being related in any way is hardly worthwhile

I have not seen such a website. Can you tell me? Oh yes, one of the famous singer here in my country was said to be a cousin on my mothers side but I do not know how many percent.

that's interesting, i think I'll try that .. my aunt once told me we are related to our National Hero. He was exiled here in my place in his time and maybe there's a little truth to what she's saying..

I would not venture into anything like that. What if I find out that I am related or connected to a criminal?

I have quite a few, Celine Dion 5th cousins, Madonna 7th cousins, Camilla Parker Bowles 9th cousin, Alanis Morissett, Angelina Joli , Justin Beiber all relatives. I am descended from Louis Hebert one of the founders of Quebec and also Abraham Martin for whom the Plaines of Abraham in Quebec are named. I am also from the Kingly Donahue line in Ireland according to our DNA. I have early New England roots and my family was in Gloucester during the witch trials but no one from my family was a witch, I suspect however that there may have been a b..ch or two!! lol

This reminded me of a site I belonged to many, many years ago, called Six Degrees, or whatever number of separation it's meant to be.

Actually, when my sister continued the Ancestey work I started, she discovered lots of famous people, direct descendants too. How about Charlemagne, all the King Henrys, the Aldens on the Mayflower, VP John C. Calhoun, gosh lots more too?

What interesting connections you're discovering. I don't think there is anyone famous or renowned in my background but who knows?
