What a filling meal

In between my appointments and her appointments my sister took hubby and I to Perkins restaurant. They change up the menues every three months or so. I had a meal that they describe as a "smash" today. On a bed of smashed tater tots, I had red bell peppers, broccoli, onions, mushrooms and eggs. Covered in Hollandaise sauce. I also had two sausage links. It was a very filling meal, with lots of vegetables, which I find yummy. This is not something I would have thought of on my own, but I enjoyed it. Is this something that sounds good to you?

It does sound pretty good.. I'd like to try it but we don't have a Perkins around here anymore, plus we rarely go out to eat anymore due to affordability.

I know eating out gets pricey even with just us two. I feel like I could copy or make something similar at home.

@katsmeow1213 Eating out has been a huge expense for us ever since I met my husband, and I am lucky, he cooks as well as I do or better.

@GardenGerty I don't like cooking anymore, and I do enjoy eating out, but right now I'm all about saving and only spending money where it's necessary.

It does sound like you have some good cooks now, I am glad for you there.

I admire the way they can change the menu every few months. They have to know the taste of the customers, their own ability to keep up the standard of cooking, and the ingredients available. It is hard enough for us to plan our own dinner at night.

I agree with you about not really knowing what to cook sometimes. I think they try things on the menu and retain the most popular ones.

I have not been to Perkins in a long time. They have good food there. What you had sounds good.

Not living in town now, we eat out less. So this was a treat for me.

No, veggies aren't my thing. I love a good Hollandaise sauce, but its so rich that I try to steer away from it as I don't need the calories. But, it sounds as though you enjoyed the meal, which is nice, especially since you were treated.

I love rich sauces, and yes, like you I avoid them most of the time.

That sound like the sort of delicious meal I have to stay away from. My doctor would say it has to many carbs and too much fat. Unfortunatly, until I slim down around 10 pounds, I must forget about such wonders.

I think it would be too rich for my stomach.

When we lived in a different area of TN we had a Perkins- it was a decent place to get a quick dinner.

It does sound good, but the tater tots would be a diabetic no no for me.

@GardenGerty need a different base, no peppers, green onions or leeks, and no mushrooms!

I have wanted to try one, but have never been. They just build one in the next town, maybe I will get a chance now.

I would not want to eat that much every day, but it was a good treat. I could have ordered pancakes, toast, muffins or fruit for 99 cents more, but it was plenty without.

I do love those smashes. I see them in all the restaurants named something different in each one. Bowls and breakfast this and that. Good though and, yes, very filling.

I haven't been to Perkins in years. But that meal does sound yummy. I might have to check it out someday, if there's one in my area.

This sounds a really nice meal. I like sauces or gravy with any meals where it's appropriate.
