My daughter got a new laptop tonight but she doesn't have a MSN account. I am wondering if I go in on mine and sign out of my MSN can I set up a new account that will be affiliated with her or will it mess mine up and be affiliated with mine? I can't call Microsoft and ask them because they are closed on the weekend.

Surely if she has a new laptop then she will need a Microsoft account to sign in to the computer, unless it is using Windows 8. You can create as many Microsoft accounts as you like and use them separately, so this will not be a problem.

@celticeagle I assumed that you meant MSN as a Microsoft account for email and related services. If you are referring to MSN as an ISP, I understood that they only had dial up service, which would be quite inefficient by today's standards. Is she trying to create an email address to be used to log into Windows, or an Internet Service Account in order to access the internet?

@Asylum ... Yeah, I didn't make that very plane did I? I was in a hurry. We were just trying to set up her computer. I didn't realize she could by pass that and just go to her ISP info and put in the password and info there and get online that way. Got it handled. Thanks for your input though. Next time I will give my friends more info to work with.

Ya, It is how to go about it that I was wondering about. She can't get online until she has one. I could do it on mine but I was wondering how to go about it so it is a separate account from mine and doesn't mess up my MSN account.

I am not sure about how MSN accounts work. It certainly should be possible to set up a new account on your PC (having signed out of yours first, of course) but whether it would then be associated with your machine or not, I don't know. I would have thought that the safest way would be to use your daughter's laptop to set up an account. Microsoft have an enormous amount of help online. Sometimes it's easy to find the information you want, sometimes it's not! Have you searched for help under "MSN account"?

But we can not use hers until we get her online. Microsoft sure does have a lot of help online buy only during the week. That's why I was asking else where because they weren't available until Monday and my daughter is excited to get her PC running. And the search thing is where you have to put in the right phrase. Very frustrating.

@celticeagle That is just crazy! How would anyone begin to use a PC they bought if they can't use it to sign up for a Microsoft account! Do you mean that she can't even open a browser window? If she can, then here is the link she should type into the address field: You should not use 'Search' to access a web page unless you don't know the URL of the site.
Create an account You can use any email address as the user name for your new Microsoft account, including addresses from Outlook.com, Yahoo! or Gmail. If you already sign in to a Windows PC, tablet, or phone, Xbox Live, Outlook.com, or OneDrive, use that

@owlwings ...Because they can't get online to set up an MSN account until they can get online. She can open a browser window. She didn't have WIFI yet and we can that figured out, bypassed the need for a MSN account and she is fine now. Thank you for your help though.

If the matter is not urgent, maybe you can wait for the weekdays again and consult microsoft on this problem. But it's possible if you erase history and have her register an account in your laptop. but that is just my pont of view, Im not much into tech these days.

Yeah, I have a guy coming out later to help. My daughter is excited to get online and I didn't want to have to wait until the weekdays. Thank you.

I think Barry has given you very good advice, multiple MSN accounts are not an issue.

In my opinion it is better if you set up a new account for her. Using your account can mess up things.

That is what I was wondering. If the 'new account' meant that I could do that.
