snarl or grin

We once shared life with a burly yellow Lab. Poor gal was friendly and wiggly and itching to please. She also had a horrid set of crooked teeth. Her canine tooth stuck out when she grinned. Her entire body wriggled, from nose to tail. She wanted pets and love and yet some folks spotted that snaggly tooth and they freaked, calling her killer! Some folks don't know how to read Dog.

@Marcyaz We laid our Quanta pup to rest a few years ago. She knew love most of her life.

Quanta was a dear fur person. We adopted her from a shelter- she'd been caught begging for sandwiches at the local high school. 44 days in that shelter. I think she had nightmares. Sweet gal.

Awww, poor baby. Those are the kinda folks that put labels on Pitbulls, Rotties and German Shepherds, the only nasty ones I'd ever met were those trained as sentry dogs. Haven't seen many pitties as sentry dogs tho, unless they want to give thieves a tongue lashing.

We were thinking about babysitting a Pitbull. He hadn't been worked with well though the owner said he was. I love dogs though I am allergic to them- and live with two. That Pitti put was way too much for me. We had an episode with that boy and our silly Lab gal Leah when he was here. Both dogs are fantastic but I had to draw the line.

@sallypup You have to draw the line if they don't get along.

Poor gal she can't help how her teeth look. Some people just can't tell if a dog is friendly or not. My big black gal is very social but lots of people want to be reassured she doesn't bite nor my little dog is about 35 pounds and when you look at here you see her little teeth but she doesn't bite either.

@sallypup My big girl is 105 pounds and very tall along with her poundage. She is very social and loves everyone even the little 5 pound dog I watch in the daytime.

Our Leah is a black Lab mix and yes folks are nervous around her 84 pounds of wiggle and enthusiasm. Dogs are just fantastic to live with. I am allergic to them and yet can't imagine not having a smashed couch and a dog on it!!

@hereandthere: Dogs and cats are quite similar to us humans in most physical ways.

@TiarasOceanView Leah is loyal and loving. It was easy to teach her to stand by me and let me lean on her if I needed to kneel on the ground. Leaning on her helps me to get up.

@tiarsOceanView Leah loves to do the Lab Lean: I have to tell her to stop cause all that weight really works my arthritic knees over.

You are right. Some people have a difficult time reading dogs. Of course, dogs have a difficult time reading too. (At least without their glasses) Little humor.

Some people are just scared of dogs. A real dog lover would know the dog was friendly.

If you let a weird tooth scare you away from a loving Lab wagging its whole body, you definitely don't speak dog.

I'm with you, @thehorse. Our present pooch, Leah, black Lab mix, came to me today, prancing, wiggling, obviously inviting a friendly time. And yet she is long and large and could scare folks.

We have a yellow lab and she is a doll, so sweet, and loving, and yes, loves to be loved on. She is very smart. She kind of has an overbite, but probably no as noticeable as yours.. No need to be afraid of them at all, they are the most loving, and dependable dogs you could have. Below is a picture of ours.

To respond to your original post, I agree with you that Quantapup was the biggest softie who ever lived. And I thought her grin was great too.
