Is Shooting the Solution to Stop a Fight?

This morning, in my usually peaceful neighborhood, a fight broke out. A man was seen beating on a woman. Another woman shot the man to stop the fight, although he was not fatally wounded. I don't have all the details. What would you do in a situation such as this to stop the fight and protect the woman being beat on? Is shooting the best solution?

No shooting is not the best solution. I know calling the police they might not come too fast. I know she can't break it up in fear she will be hit. In a case like this I feel that some of the men around should not stand and watch but maybe try together to pull the guy off this poor woman and hold him down until the police do come.

As mentioned before, I'm not sure of all the specifics, but surely someone was around that could have jumped in and helped. There was a convenience store right by this incident and also many residential houses.

Absolutely not the right way to stop anything.

It is an impulsive response and maybe done out of panic, but I agree that it isn't the best solution.

I'd shake the hand of the shooter, no one has the right to beat on someone smaller than him/herself. The fool was lucky he wasn't killed and I hope he's never in a position to bully beat another woman.

Having witnessed family being beaten and seeing how little any kind of non violent reproach affected them I'd say it has to be met this way @Katlynn they won't learn even when the tables are turned on them, it's a character flaw.

I understand your feelings! I hope to find out more about the situation. It's possible the woman tried other methods to break up the fight that did not work. She saw someone being beat and knew it wasn't right.

That is not the best solution. Maybe she should have shot on the air to scare them but not shooting him,it could have worked

Shooting is never the correct answer. I'm sure there are other ways the fight could have been stopped, but shooting him is not one of them.

Without more detail there is no way to answer. Perhaps the shooter had every reason to shoot, perhaps not. Either way it would have been a judgement call on her part, rightfully so or not.

True, as with most any situation, details make the difference. Oddly, I haven't heard anything more about this incident.

That sounds quite horrible to me. I don't think shooting is the best solution, it might make the situation worse. I think there might be a better way to protect the woman being beaten, but sometimes when it's in the critical moment, perhaps this is what the other woman could think of. Glad that no one was seriously hurt.

I was not there but the first thing I would have done was to call the authorities.

I believe that would be a good response to the situation.

I am not so sure. I would probably try to physically break it up or call the cops. Although Im not sure what your police folk are like there but here - it seems they often take a while to get to calls. I guess Im glad to see that the shooting is not gang related at least! And not fatal.

I would try to immobilize the aggressor. It's easier said than done though but maybe not impossible.

That would be ideal until emergency personnel could arrive if the woman could have immobilized the aggressor. The "if" is what makes the situation scary. The aggressor could have turned on her as well.

It's not the first choice i would have made but she didn't fatally injure him so not the worst either i suppose. Hope she shot him in the butt lol

I think I would have called 911 and asked for help. I don't agree that shooting is the answer

I'd say it depends on whether the woman's life was at risk. I've seen couples go at it and then be all lovey dovey the next day, presumably after they gotten their "fix." In general, I'd say shooting a perp is only justified if someone's life is in danger.

The bullet was just as likely to wound or kill the victim. So no, I don't think shooting would be a good idea at all.
