Does anybody think that people are becoming addicted to selfies?

These days it is becoming unusual to see someone without a mobile phone. I know of people who have set off for somewhere only to realise that they don't have their phone. When they realised that they left the phone at home they turned around to go back to get it. I personally do not take selfies, but I do like to see them and I am often in them when out with friends who like to post on sites like Facebook. I think that taking selfies is here to stay, though I wish people would not take them in situations where they should be giving their full attention to what they are doing. I think more than one young person has lost their life through taking a selfie at the wrong time in the wrong place.

Mags, I would have to agree with you as I know someone if she left her cell phone at home she would have to go back for it no matter how far away from house she was and people taking selfies while driving are not only putting their own lives at risk but other peoples.

@Drosophila ..the face looks larger than body in many cases.

Yep, all my selfies are just 1 shot from 1 angle. Might as well be the same picture.

I think it is, sadly, I mean one now and then is ok, but people seem to take more of their face than the pretty things around them!

I used to take selfies when the word didn't exist....but since the trend emerged I found it quite pointless to take pics of yourself wherever you go and whatever you do. I mean a selfie now and then is okay, but it's ridiculous to take them all the time in every situation. This new addictive behavior should be curbed (although I dunno how).

Yes! Sometimes it is really annoying! People don't even pay attention to you or what you're trying to do and they end up getting in your way...all for a picture!

It seems that young people like that a lot. I suppose it comes with the fact that even babies own cellphones with cameras lately.

Lol this was suggested to me! There was a time that I took selfies for 30 days as an experiment. I just wanted to see how my looks changed, especially during the stressed-out days. Well, it was just a personal thing for me so I guess there's nothing wrong with it.

I see it all the time, and it doesn't please me. If you could a) view one of Monet's Giverny water lily paintings at the Met, carefully study his brush strokes, and then view it at various distances to see how it comes into focus, with incredible depth cues, at a certain distance away, or 2) take a dang selfie in front of the painting and then move on, which would you do? Grr.

Yeah, don't get me started on this @umer121 . It's bad enough people can't drive without a cell phone in their hand, now they have to take a picture of doing everything. It's ridiculous; a bunch of 2-year olds.

It's a curious thing. I'm amazed at how often some people change their profile pictures on Facebook, as an example. Do we think an experience isn't real unless we can see ourselves there?

I don't get this selfie phenomena at all. It's really tiresome to see people who constantly post a selfie every 5 min.
