A Wasted Afternoon

Today both my husband and I, had an appointment with our dentist for the annual check-up. My appointment was scheduled at 3 pm, the one of my husband at 3.30. I do not like the appointment in the middle of the afternoon, they spoil your day, but unfortunately I have been unable to move the appointment to a better time. Well, I am glad that at least everything went well with the dentist, no need to go back until the next year. It's already late in the afternoon, but I can cut a little hour for me before dinner. I am going to check my notifications.

I can't stand appointments late during the day either. Tomorrow I have one at the lung specialist at 10:00 A.M. and then in the afternoon, the furnace man will come after 3:00 P.M. I know already that I will not be happy tomorrow.

Yep, those sound like two appointments that could try a person's patients. I do hope they go as well as they can.

@marlina One in the morning and another in the afternoon completely spoil your day. I am happy when I can use my time as I like.

@birjudanak The doctors and dentists do not fix appointments after 5 PM and this is a heavy traffic hour and it's dark outside.

It was a wasted day for me yesterday.. The whole day I had to keep waiting for my doctor to show up.. she was stuck in one emergency surgery after another.. I just gave up and walked out after waiting there for more than half a day.

Yes, it is not cheap, but it's better to keep our teeth healthy or it will cost a fortune to fix.

I try to make appointments at 1:00. This way, I am the first person seen after the lunch break and I have little or no wait.

@ElizabethWallace I know, every time that I have appointments late in the morning the doctor is late. They should pay a penalty after 15 minutes delay.

@LadyDuck Sometimes I end up with one late in the morning, say 11:00, but the person (doctor, dentist, hair dresser, etc.) is often running late. So annoying.

Good that the dentist and you too came at scheduled time and every thing went well. That is not true with my son's experience. He was scheduled at 10 pm but the dentist came late and almost lunch time. So my son wasted almost 2 hours just waiting for that dentist.

@LadyDuck That's good to know. I don't know if this dentist will ever retain her patients if she can't even come on time.

@salonga If a patient is five, let's say ten, minute late they accept to see the patient and try to be fast. If the delay is too much, the patient receives the bill anyway, but the dentist will move the appointment to another day. This way people learn not to be late.

Yes late appointments have a way of seeming to ruin the day. The good thing is that both of you had appointments together and in the same time frame.

Our doctors and dentists usually perform surgery in the morning, it's hard to get an appointment before 1 pm, but to be sure it's better to wait until 2 if you do not want to risk to wait.

I try to make my appointments first thing in the morning so I have plenty of time for washing a window or two afterward. I've had an appointment set up for several months to get a tooth prepped for a crown. Usually my appointments are on Monday mornings, but I think because the last appointment at that time followed me working the midnight shift and I didn't realize it until the last minute that I set this one up for later in the week. Problem is, I forgot when it was. Last Monday, I went by nine A.M. and found I was a week early. The gal told me the date, but I was thinking it was on a Monday still and went again yesterday. The appointment isn't until this Thursday. Even though it's first thing in the morning, it's not the best day afterall. If it doesn't rain, we have a big window job, but now have to wait until I'm done before starting it.

Most of the doctors do not accept appointments in the morning because in the morning they perform surgery. Also our dentist works in the hospital in the morning, so the appointments start at 2 in the afternoon.

@MarshaMusselman All our Doctors do the blood tests and other tests in their private offices, so even if they do not perform surgery at the hospital, in the morning they do the tests. If there is a urgency, we can always go to our local ER, they are there all the time and the waiting time is never more than 15 minutes.

@LadyDuck That wouldn't work for many of us over here. While certain doctors perform surgeries at the hospital, the majority of the ones used for family doctors don't unless they deliver babies too. If I had to have my appointments that late, I'd not have many because I'm usually at my cashiering job by then and when I'm not doing that it would mess up our being able to do windows all day long.

@LadyDuck And much cheaper too! I've had to spend quite a bit over the years on my teeth, mainly because I didn't look after them when I was young.

If you have an afternoon appointment, it really takes up the whole day. You can't do things as you wish in the morning, because you have to be done in time to go to the appointment. Then it cuts a large swath of time out of the middle of your day.

Exact! You cannot manage your time as you like. We moved half an hour earlier from home because at 14:00 we know that the main road is crowded by workers coming from Italy and when you are back around 5 in the afternoon there is not much time left to do anything.
