Save Money & Stop Spending It!

Recently I noticed that the cost of living is going up entirely. Food shopping with a 100 dollars is not the same thing it was 5 years ago and everything in general cost more and its quality doesnt change. Money is always an issue when you have 3 children and the cost of living is going up everday! I have been trying to save money and have noticed that its hard when im spending it on things that I dont really need. For example last night I was hungry at around 9 pm and ended up ordering sandwiches for about 9 dollars, and I had ham and cheese and bread in the fridge but ended up spending money on a sandwich instead of saving that. And I do this alot and too often to the point where its starting to become an expense.

I don't spend that much. I hardly buy stuff for myself but I have to agree on the grocery thing. I went shopping last saturday and spent 145 dollars but didn't really get a whole lot, it's crazy. I eat what we have at home before going out and buying something.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX grocery bills are ridiculous. I complain every time I shop and get less and less for more money

If you can afford to spend like this, you cannot say that time is hard. Your habits make the money gone, not because you do not have money. For those who really face hardship, they will not have the money to order takeaway, and there is literally nothing in the fridge.

Well thats just poverty if you have nothing in your fridge and I order about 50 USD of takeout a month between pizza and chinese food and that expense doesnt make me poorer or richer

@BACONSTRIPSXXX $50 on takeout every month is not excessive. Having said that, if there is a way to save the $50 every month, you will find that you save $600 a year. With compound interest and continuous saving, you will reach $10,000 soon.

My sister and I were just talking about this, the cost of living is getting insane. Prices keep going up, daily. Saving is tough when goods we need each day are so expensive. I rarely eat takeout or order food.

Honestly I don't know how people manage running a household and raising children when the price of EVERYTHING just keeps going up. Guess the first thing is only spending on things that are necessary and not buying on a whim.

I was also in the situation, but found some sort of answer. (Answer only, not a solution) As one of our country's legends Swami Vivekananda said "the alternate to weakness is to focus on our strengths, not on the weakness". Also there is one saying " we should always try to earn more to meet our expenses rather than shrinking our needs". (It's some kind of truth too. If we just keep on shrinking our needs, one day we see yourself tied up in a situation. Well, avoiding wastage is different.) Whenever I find myself on financial issues, I tell to myself "keep going and go for more". At least it keeps me motivated, in hard situations.

Nowadays, more and more people are encumbered with debt just because what they earn is not enough to cover their daily expenses. In other words, they do not make ends meet. Because of this, they have to borrow money with high interest.

Everyone of us is facing this type of money crisis recently. It is depending on our self as how we are going to spend our hard-earned money. The choice as what to buy and not to buy is depending on us. If only we can spend wisely, i am sure we can save quite a good amount of money. Choose wisely cause money can make us happy as well as sad.

Funny that you bring it up. I mean I was just thinking. When I buy vegetables and cook them I spend a lot of time washing, chopping, and cooking. Out here, we get cooked vegetables for less than 1/3rd dollar. So for a day I could spend 2/3rd of a dollar on vegetables and cut down on that chore. In fact, my father was keen that I do that. The rest of the grocery bill would 8 times that I think including milk eggs and bread. This, is not the main concern. My main concern is repairs to home and health. So far god has taken care of my health and even my papa is ok..touch wood. But at 56 our monthly health insurance is well over 150 dollars! And imagine the amount that may not be covered by those policies. I dread it. I also dread repairs to homes. It seems I spend more on repairs than on what I eat each month. lol. Can I do without those repairs? I don't know. We have had water shortages so we needed pump and it was damaged so yet another and so on and so forth. Vehicle too gave trouble last month and went for repair twice. I am scared of such expenses because I feel I have food covered.

I totally relate. When I was working, though never lots of money, I use to order pizza and take out sandwiches weekly or go out to eat. Now that I am retired on a fixed income, I rarely do. I won't say never because it is important to enjoy the things that bring you pleasure, but it is far and few between. But there are many other ways to cut the spending so one can enjoy little pleasures. I do many things myself that folks pay others to do. Especially while the kids were home (I was a single mom);we shopped at thrift stores, did our own small repairs (toilets, appliances), our own haircuts, darned socks/stockings, etc. You get the picture. By so doing we could have a little money left over for entertainment and pleasure.

Why not set one day a week to order something and make the rest of the meals at home.
