Care Package From America

November 11, 2015 8:04am CST
I was watching movie earlier and it was set in the south-central part of America. And someone briefly mentioned bacon, sausage and grits. It left me a little confused because over here, grit is something you put on the road when it has been snowing. But after a little research, it is now my understanding that it is some kind of food and is mainly eaten for breakfast in America. I could be wrong as I am just going off of movie references and the internet but I think I'm in the right area. A while ago now, a friend of mine from America decided to send me what she liked to call a 'care package'... Being a lover of almost all things American, it's safe to say I was excited! When the package arrived, after what felt like months of waiting, I was deliriously happy and immediately began to tear the neatly decorated box open. And I was greeted by a truly wondrous sight. There was delicious American food left, right and centre. Lots of candy, RiceaRoni, Kool Aid, Jello and Twinkies. I had no idea where to start! It was my idea of Heaven and I went on a sugar bender. My friend had even sent me a hoodie. I couldn't eat it but it is still awesome! If America is the second 'fattest' country in the world...Well I think I would fit right in! But you can keep your grits to yourself.

Grits are coarsely ground cornmeal which are then cooked into a porridge with water and salt. The dish is similar to polenta and other corn-based porridges. There are a few American foods which we don't commonly find here in England. I recently received a packet of Goldfish baked snacks from my niece in Washington, D.C. These are slightly different from the snack cookies or savoury biscuits which we get in England and much nicer, in my opinion. Each one is shaped like a tiny fish but they are cheese flavoured not fishy!

I'm not particularly fond of grits as they are most popular in our southern states. I do love Twinkies though

I am glad you liked the food sent to you.Grits originated in the Southern States of America. I was born and raised in the South. I have grown up eating grits with my bacon and eggs. I like grits a lot. But, you have to know how to properly eat them. In the South, you only need to put butter, salt and pepper in it. You can crumble bacon into it which is good. But, there is one way to never eat it and that is putting syrup, honey or sugar in it. That is how Northerners do it and it just is not as good that way.

Now that's what I call a care package! I thought it would be filled with soap, shampoo, tissues, stuff like you'd send to someone who was needy. But all that sweet stuff! Lucky you.
